BENJAMIN SCHOFIELD BORN 1827
AND HIS DESCENDANTS

Benjamin was baptised at Mirfield on the 7th January, 1827.
In 1841 he is to be found living with his parents on Lower Banks, Honley in
West Yorkshire.
Benjamin married Eliza Sykes on the 6th May, 1850 at the Church of All
Hallows at Almondbury, Huddersfield.
On the 1851 census at Honley Benjamin and Eliza lived on Back Lane.
During his lifetime Benjamin was a corn miller, a general labourer and a coal miner and Eliza a woollen weaver.

Sometime between 1852 and 1854, Benjamin and
Eliza moved to Mossley near Ashton-under-Lyne in Lancashire.
It seems that a number of Eliza's family, the Sykes, moved there around the
same time.
It would appear that they lived at a number of locations but in 1881 they lived in a tiny house, 19 Vernon Street, with five of their children. Next door at number 17 lived a son and daughter and their family.

Mary Ellen
born 1860 in Mossley and married to Uriah Thorpe in 1879.
Mary Ellen was employed as a cotton tenter and Uriah as a cotton piecer (and
later a coal miner weaver).
In 1881 they were lodging with Mary Ellen's brother John Thomas at 17 Vernon
Street, Mossley.
It appears that by 1891 Mary Ellen and Uriah had separated, she was living
at 22 Charles Street, Ashton-under-Lyne and
Uriah had moved back to live with his parents.
He was still with them in 1901, no trace of either Mary Ellen or their
daughter on this census.

born 23 January 1866 in Mossley.
Emigrated to USA, arrived at Ellis Island on 6 July 1895 having sailed on
the Lucania from Liverpool.
Applied for citizenship 9 February 1898, was living at 171 Ratcliffe Street,
Fall River, Massachusetts.

Harriet A
was born in 1868 in Carrbrook, Stalybridge in Cheshire.

William was born in 1872 at Mossley.
In 1881 he appears on the census
living with his parents, no record of William on 1891 census.
By 1897
William had emigrated to Fall River, Massachusetts, USA.
He was married to
Mary Zwicker and had five children.

was born on 2 December 1876 at 16 Beaconsfield Street, Audenshaw,
Lancashire.
He died in March 1921 at Fall River, Massachusetts.
