Galadriel's dress is a stunning creation in embroidered and beaded silk chiffon. My version is done in the not-quite-so-dramatic-and-stunning-but-will-pass-okay fabric of pre-sequined lace. (It goes for 20 bucks a yard; I got it for about 10 because it was fifty percent off… plus I got an additional 20 percent because I work there...bwah ah ah). I broke a total of seven heavy-duty sewing machine needles while working with this fabric. (Yes, I was quite flustered). I trimmed the neck-facing with lines of pearls. There is sort of a sleeve-cap/roll effect on the shoulder, which is good because that's kind of what the original has. I didn't use a pattern and therefore had a little trouble with fitting in the back. But I put in some inserts at the zipper and kept the effect while correcting my near-fatal mistake. The belt was fairly easy. I used a cream colored one-sided satin and glued beads, sequins, and pearls all over. There is a wavering line of pearls done the center of each piece (except the tail behind the front one) and strands of pearls on all the edges. It came out quite nice in a simplified pattern of the original. The crown and brooch are more like prototypes since I just used wire and cardboard (and a seashell for the brooch). But they actually didn't come out too bad, I would say. I still have to make the preview cloak to go with it, but here is the costume in all its glory!
