Arwen's Mourning Gown

A strangely beautiful gothic creation. Seen only briefly in TTT during Elrond's prophecy about Arwen's future.
I wanted my version of Arwen's Mourning Gown to be fairly exact with my own personal touches.
So, instead of using a smooth red fabric for the belt and red insert, I used raw silk (which has a really nice weave texture to it). Instead of making this dress out of blue/purple velvet, I used straight out black suede-velvet. The trim on this gown is a simplified version of what the actual trim is (too complicated for me to even think about replicating! *-*) I have a small frame so I definitely didn't need 11 buttons down the front. I only used six. It worked.
The trim: I started with a deep red velvet (I know it's not velvet in the actual dress but I thought it looked cool) which had a gold floral design on it. I further enhanced the gold by going through with more gold swirls in fabric paint. I did the thistles by hand. I used blue seed beads, which actually varied in size and color slightly. The green part of the thistles is owed to my embroidery, and more fabric paint. On the edges of this trim, I used a gold rope trim, which I sewed on by hand.
For the pattern, I mostly drafted. I used a pattern I had (don't know what number but I'll find out) for the neckline, a generic sleeve pattern for the upper half of the sleeve, and created the rest by myself. The skirt is gathered into a v-point bodice. The closing in front is false (there's a zipper in the back).
The veil is two yards of black chiffon, finished off at the edges. It's rectangle cut.
The crown was a fun project. I used heavy cardboard, spray painted it gold, and put on all the designs with fabric paint. (I used black and white paint). The white tree of Gondor in the center, is actually, a "white" tree over a weave of black leaves.
