One person can make a huge difference in the life Of our nation if he/she is persistent and passionate about changing things for the better. We need a nationwide education campaign to get the facts out to Americans about the problems caused by the Electoral College so they will support Electoral College reform proposals and activities. Here are some things you can do:

1) Write or e-mail your two senators and congressman and tell them how you feel about Electoral College reform; ask about their positions on this issue and why they take those positions.

2) Write to encourage elected officials around the country who have taken a stand in favor of Electoral College reform to let them know you believe in this cause and want to help change things.

3) Write or e-mail the political parties to tell them about your concerns about the Electoral College, and try to get them involved. So far, neither the Democratic, nor Republican parties have chosen to take up this cause, probably because it requires 3/4ths of the states to ratify any amendment to the Constitution, and because there have been many attempts over the country's history to change the way the Electoral College works.

4) You could become a focal point for distribution of Electoral College reform information and materials in your community, region, or state. You could use materials from this web site for this purpose. Feel free to distribute this web-address to whomever you think might be interested. You might do the same for the references and links that were used in this web site to distribute some reliable information to those who might be interested. (Be careful not to violate any laws or regulations against spamming on the internet, however.)

5) Distribute "IF YOU LOVE AMERICA...CHANGE THIS" calling cards throughout your neighborhood. Get civic organizations of all kinds to help distribute the cards and raise the level of consciousness of voters in your community about the inequalities and injustices caused by the Electoral College.

6) Talk about this issue to your friends and acquaintances. There is a lot of misunderstanding about the Electoral College and how it works. Educate yourself on the details so you can help bring light rather than heat to the discussion, and elevate the level of discussion wherever you go. Be aware that people--especially conservatives of all political persuasions--are very wary about changing the Constitution, and are often hostile to anyone wanting to make any change of any kind. However, most people when they become aware of the facts recognize the need for change.

7) Be a resource for your community on this subject. Offer to talk to groups such as the PTA, Boy & Girl Scouts, AAUW, civic groups, etc., about this subject. Start or support a discussion group or action group on this subject in your neighborhood. Start your own political action group on Electoral College reform and get the group's ideas about how to raise voters consciousness on this issue.

8) Write your local news, radio, and TV or the major networks about this issue. Ask why something isn't being done. Raise people's consciousness about the injustice and inequities caused by the Electoral College.

9) Be a community leader on this issue. A leader's most important function is to inspire people to do the right thing, provide an agenda of activities leading to the goal, and to make them responsible for getting things done.
