DAY 10: SATURDAY, AUGUST 27th (Continued)
Three o'clock brought us to
Hiawatha Lodge, on the third pond, and the beginning of the carry to Rustic Lodge, on Saranac,- the indian carry,- three-fourths of a mile. This carry is hilly, sandy, and sunny,- a regular country road in fact. Farms on one side
and a golf-links on the other.
Four-fifteen found us embarked upon Upper Saranac, and fifteen minutes later we found an ideal camping spot on a point of land which we are pleased to consider as State land. However that may be
it is within sight of Rustic Lodge, on the east shore, and we found a boughbed but a few days old, several fireplaces, and quite a clearing. It commands a magnificent view of the lake.
Dinner at five, before our tent was up,- oatcakes, fried ham, bread, raisins, and coffee. Fished afterwards. Fritz had his usual luck again, and caught nine,- 6 bull-heads, 2 perch, and a strawberry bass. I managed to land four,- three bull-heads and a perch.
Fished from the canoe awhile, with no success. All our luck was had on a smooth rock which forms the extreme end of our point.
