DAY 2: FRIDAY, AUGUST 19th (Continued)
Sixth Lake is the first really wild water we have struck. It is in fact an overflow caused
by a dam at the outlet, and dead stumps and trunks of trees are everywhere, with a narrow channel threading the center.
The stillness is oppresive. It is about a mile and a half long, and we arrive at Seventh Lake via a short and wide inlet.
This contains almost as many camps, in proportion, as does Fourth Lake, at least at the lower end. At the upper end, the State land commences and only
canvas camps are allowed. Rounding an island off the eastern shore, we pulled up on the mainland at seven o'clock to make our first camp. We made quite a comfortable camp, considering
the fast approaching darkness. Shall follow Stewart Edward White's advice hereafter, and make camp earlier in the afternoon. Moon-light tonight, but the trees are too thick for it to be seen.
