How do I export a QuarkXpress document as an image?

QuarkXpress 4.x does not have an image export feature, but it is still fairly easy to accomplish. Simply save your page as an EPS (you have to save each page separately) and then open the EPS file from Photoshop. You can then save it in any image format you want. Remember to save the EPS page in the correct colour model – black and white artwork should be exported as a black and white EPS, or your black values may be inaccurate in Photoshop. Also, ensure that you open the EPS from Photoshop in the correct colour model... if your images and colours in QuarkXpress are in CMYK, then open the EPS in CMYK mode in Photoshop.

You can also export a QuarkXpress document as a PDF and rasterize it in Photoshop. The quality of the images in the PDF will be determined by the settings in Acrobat Distiller.

If you notice any unusual displacement or re-ragging of type after you open the EPS or PDF in Photoshop, then open the EPS or PDF file in Illustrator, outline the fonts, and then try again. Note, however, that outlined type tends to be a bit thicker when rasterized in Photoshop.
