The Shell

Secret Identity:  Seth Bryant Origin Type: Cyberware

Gender:  Male Age: 14
Height:  7'0" Weight: 975lbs.

Hair Color: None

Eye Color: Shimmering blue
Skills: Tracking, linguistics, mathematics
Powers: Super strength, super leaping

Personality:  The Shell is your typical loveable oaf. Too big to fit through most doors, and too heavy to sit just about anywhere, he often finds himself in embarassing situations. However, he is also very good natured and can always see the absurd humor in it. His affable nature, as well as his unconditional love and respect for his teammates, makes him something of a paradox, considering his imposing size.  Although he does have an affinity for just about every one on the team, he has taken the biggest shine to Kid Mischeif and The Gnat. No one can tell a joke better than Kid and no one can repair any battle damage or tech failures better than Gnat.  He is intimidated by by a few others on the team, such as Blaze and Jinx, but handles it with good natured, self-effacing humor.
Motivation:  Initially created to protect the mind contained inside, The Shell (Seth) has since decided to put the massively powerful robotic body to good use....as a teen superhero.
Why That Name?:  It was the name given to the robotic unit by his father
History:  The Shell was created by Paragon University professor and brilliant scientist, Dr. Gordon Bryant as a vessel for his paraplegic son, Seth.

Seth was born with the crippling affliction that affected his body, but not his mind. He conveyed to his father many times that he wanted to be able to walk, just once. It was his biggest dream, his one true hope. Dr. Bryant promised him that, one day, he would indeed take his first step. First pursuing a medical, then prosthetic solution and failing, the doctor decided to try something completely different.

Calling upon all of his knowledge in the theoretical sciences, Bryant was able to create a small robotic "shell" that was able to accomodate Seth's transferred consciousness. However, during testing, he discovered that the boy would only be able to stay within the unit for very short periods of time, or his own body would die.

Seth was given The Shell on his 13th birthday, and could not wait to try it out. He and his father instantly set about having the boy's consciousness loaded into the 4 foot, 100lbs aluminum robotic body and within the hour, the task was accomplished. Seth took his first step, and although he could not experience the physical sensation of movement, the intellectual knowledge of it made him feel a joy he had never experienced before.

For weeks, Seth made routine mind transfers into The Shell and even ventured out on a few occassions. It was at one of these times that his life would be changed forever.

One day, while in the park playing catch with his father, industrial spies kidnapped the boy, in hopes of discovering what made this robot tick. They whisked him away in a van and took him to Ramseytech Enterprises. However, as they opened the doors to the van, Seth leapt out and began to run. Barely escaping, he now found himself in the middle of Paragon City, a place he was completely unfamiliar with.

He wandered the back alleys and streets for hours, afraid to be in public for fear of recapture and unable to contact his father. Eventually, he was found by Dr. Bryant, but unfortunately, too much time had elapsed. His body had died. He was forever trapped inside The Shell.

The Doctor made a decision then. If his son was to be inside The Shell, and if The Shell was a target of military and corporate factions, then the he could at least give his boy a fighting chance.

He removed the "mind containment unit" of The Shell and immediately set about making a larger, more formitable body to house it. Using state-of-the-art armour as well as pneumatics and hydraulics of his own design, Dr. Bryant created a behemoth new Shell. One that could withstand great impact and not harm the containment unit. It also possessed great strength, and once the boy was transferred inside, it was discovered that it could also leap great distances.

Seth loved the new body his father had made. He was powerful and awe-inspiring. He decided to use The Shell as a means to do good, and with his father's permission, applied to become a member of The Assembly, so that he could be a hero amongst his peers.

It should also be noted that, in the last year, Dr. Bryant has used his influence to have his son recognized as the very first robotic citzen of Paragon City.
