Source - Port Phillip Herald 2 Jan 1844 See David Farnsworth web site. The records show Total Bounty paid to John Marshall of London 48 pounds George William Farnsworth was the third son of David and is reputedly the first white male child baptised in Williamstown in the Port Phillip District of the Colony of New South Wales. He left school at the age of twelve and his first job was herding cattle on the heath (now the site of the Caulfield racecourse). He bought a team of horses and wagon and carted goods from Melbourne to the goldfields of Bendigo and Ballarat. He was held up by bushrangers on one trip near Woodend, and as he had seen them coming, had stuffed five five pound notes down the barrel of his musket. The bushrangers stole all of his merchandise and as a precaution fired of the musket, and blew George William's fivers to smithereens. He never forgave them for that.
