OLaughlan brothers, Cornelius O’Loughlin was born near Ennistymon in County Clare Ireland in about 1818. He was the third son of Laurence O’Loughlin and Mary Conlan. That he was born near Ennistymon, was stated in "The Clare Journal" on 5 May 1913, in an article relating to the visit of Cornelius’s son, The Hon. Laurence O’Loughlin.
With his sister Ellen 21, brother John, John’s wife Mary (nee Barry), 24 and infant son Patrick of six months. Cornelius arrived in Port Phillip in the Colony of Victoria on 17 February 1842 aboard the ship "Thetis", having left Cork, Ireland on 9 November 1841.
Cornelius was then aged 24 and although the exact time of his coming to South Australia is unknown for certain, it was possibly 1844 (pg. 617, Vol.2 Aldine History of SA). In 1853, the year of his marriage to Ann Barry, he took up more land at Virginia to bring his holding there to 228 acres.
Ellen also came to South Australia, presumably at the same time and later married Martin McGowan. John and his family remained in Victoria. (See separate heading for John & Mary).
Ellen Olaughlin 21 came Feb 1842 with 222 on the Thetis
The number of children born to Ellen and Martin McGowan has not been established. They had a daughter Annie who married John McCormack on 28.2.1876

John was married to Mary Barry in Ireland. Mary was the daughter of William and Margaret Barry nee Foley. John & Mary’s oldest child Patrick was born in Ireland and was listed on the Passenger List of immigrants arriving on the "Thetis" (17 February 1842) as being aged 6 months.
John and Mary had three more children. Details of the family are further shown below. When they first arrived, John leased land at Irishtown, now the Geelong suburb of South Geelong. His name appears on the electoral rolls for 1845 and 1849.

Barney Leary Oleary of Merri Creek, his wife gave birth to twin daus and a son. When a week old they were taken to be baptised. Later, in Little Bourke St, the cart jolted the three nurses and babies out. Fortunately not injured. Dr O'Mulian may have been their Surgeon Superintendent for the voyage to Port Phillip on the William Metcalfe with Captain Phillipson from Plymouth Harbour 26 July and reached Port Phillip after 113 days, on 15 Nov 1839 with 230 immigrants, 82 paid own fare and 168 bounty.
He appears to have travelled back to Sydney along the overland route, I can find no shipping reference showing him sailing to Sydney. Sydney Commercial Journal reported departure Mon 17 Aug.
Dr Arthur O'Mulian arrived Port Phillip August 27, 1840 on "William Woolley" from Sydney, a brig, 199 tons, Truscott master, with Dr Agnew and Colonel and Mrs Wall. Was not aboard when it returned to Sydney
