Harriet Ridley immigrated on 27 Jun 1840 to Port Phillip, Vic on the ship Andomache, listed as coming from Wexford, Ireland; she was 19 years of age, a dressmaker, of the Protestant religion, and could read and write. Also on the ship was a Sarah Ridley, who also came from Wexford, she was 16 years of age, and also a dressmaker. Sarah was possibly Harriet's sister.
Martha was christened in 1820 daughter of Edward Ridley and Jane Taylor, wed on 21 Sep 1840 to Abraham Dathe Ward at Parish of St James Melbourne, Bourke, Vic, Australia. They were married by banns by Rev Rochfort Burrow Grange. They had 13 children.
Martha's first child, also named Martha, was the only recorded instance of Aborigines killing a European child in the Portland District, something that could not be said of the local white population regarding Aboriginal children.
