The Whyte brothers, William, George, Pringle, James and John arrived in Port Phillip in 1837 and took up land near the Pentland Hills. In 1838 they travelled west and took up country about Wannon River. They occupied Konongwootong station on Koroit Creek, 6.5 kilometres north of Coleraine, in February 1840.
