Step-by-Step Instructions
Setup: Sit comfortably with your spine long and your body relaxed and
mindful. Close your eyes.
Step 1: Picture a candle flame, giving off a scintillating golden light.
In yoga the symbol of the candle is often used to represent the light
of the spirit inside, and when we focus on the flame, it draws our attention
inside to a place of tranquility. Watching the flame, let go of negative
thoughts and self-judgments. Feel your body and your mind soften. Let
the negative thoughts be purified by the flame. Allow the flame to illuminate
those qualities you'd like to cultivate in yourself -- patience, kindness,
contentment, clarity. Watch the flame.
Sit quietly with your eyes closed for a few breaths, noticing how you
feel, and then gently open your eyes.
