Let Me In

There was a man and a woman, tired of the life they had been living and wanted a change. From the corner they hung out at on Sunday nights, they could hear the sound of an organ and the choir singing. Being brought up in church as children, they would talk about how they use to go to church until  they both decided to go ahead and make that change and visit the neighborhood church.  That next Sunday, they sat on the back pews where they wouldn’t bring too much attention to themselves and wearing what they felt was decent. As they joined in with the congregation in worship service, their spirits were being up lifted just being in the midst, they clapped their hands, praising God the best way they knew how.

As their praise now being  noticed, an usher went over to them, and whispered. The woman was quiet as long as she could. So happy to be in the house of  the Lord once again, she could not keep still. The usher in disguss, ushered them both out of the sanctuary. Standing in the foyer of the sanctuary where they could still hear and see through the small windows on the doors, a man  came up to them and told them they would have to go outside the church if they didn’t want to go inside. The woman being indignant certainly let him know how they were kicked out. In obedience they  both just sat on the steps of  the church, listening to what they could of the service.

As a gentle voice of a man came from behind, saying, good morning my sister and  brother. But on the verge, they looked toward the man, thinking he was going to tell them to just totally leave the church premises but saw that he was a plain  ordinary just like them.  As he continued to approached them from behind, with a gentle and warm touch,  placed his arms around their shoulders, asking, why aren’t the two of  you inside? In disappointment the man replied, tired of living the way we were, we wanted to go back to church like we were brought up and turn our lives around. The woman interrupted saying, "I was enjoying myself and they told us to be quiet!  This is the Lord’s house, so I kept right on praising him for keeping me alive all this time-----then they told us to leave, so we stood in the hall." The man finished to say, "then they told us to get out the hallway if we wasn''t  allowed inside. So thats why we're out here----we only want to do right and this is the way we get treated."  The woman asked, can you believe that? The gentleman dropped his head, voice now sadden and answered…yeah, this is where I sit every Sunday. Together the both of  them let out a ----sigh and replied what?

He went on to say, this once was my place of worship and they do me the same way every Sunday. The only time they let me in, is when it’s the faithful few. As the man and woman looked at him in dismay, The woman than asked the gentleman, why do you bother to come here? He pulled out a white hankerchief wiping the tears in his eyes and  answered,  I come here every Sunday because…you see…I’m Jesus.
