In the New Testament, it was customary belief that after death the spirit
remained in the body for 3 days. During this period, there was a lot of mourning and wailing; Jhn 11:33. When Jesus heard of Lazarus' death, as much as he loved Martha and Mary, Jesus did not stop from what he was doing and was in no hurry.  He knew Lazarus was just sleep and needed to be awakened. It was on the 4th day, when the customary mourning and wailing was over when Jesus showed up.  Then even Martha thought he was too late, as she knew at this time her brother's remains must smell by now. If he had shown up during the period of customary belief, no one would believe the miracle of raising Lazarus from the dead. Jesus simply waited while Mary, Martha and the people were in their stillness.

He waits for us to be in stillness so that he can perform miracles in our lives.  We have all been in situations where we pray for blessings and miracles but we will not be still long enough to receive.  We fret, wail, weep, moan and groan and sometimes all it takes is prayer faith and stillness.  Although Lazarus' stillness was death, through a miracle he was given new life.  We can go before the Lord in prayer and supplication, sometimes fasting, waiting on our blessings with things in us or in our lives that need to die and stop holding on to things that keep us angry or even cause restlessness, when all we need to do is " just be still" so Jesus can call forth our miracles and blessings.   Jesus did not drop
everything and run to Martha or Mary.  Instead he waited for them and the
people to be still and then he showed up. In there stillness, they were
able to witness the miracle of their brother Lazarus in his death clothes walking out of his tomb.

In stillness, the weaned baby will wait but not for long before it will
grow impatience and cry or even whine. None like the baby that is fretful
and will scream to the top of its lungs in any slight discomfort.
Sometimes mother knows best, letting the baby cry awhile because they are wailing before their time.  A mother can also distinguish a cry.  She has a maternal instinct to know if a cry is for hunger, fatigue, fear, pain, irritability or just plain wanting attention. Are we expecting blessings and miracles when we just need to eat, tired of going through trials, scared to go through trials, hurting because we had to go through a trial or just screaming to the top of our lungs for God to jump to our demands?

A well behave child will know how to ask. They will know when to ask and
what to ask for because they have learned in the process, so they ask and
be still instead of pulling and tugging at mama's skirt, patten and
saying mama repeatedly as if she did not hear the first time. The
child knows, if it is not still, they will not receive.  Let us restrain
from the way we ask and what we ask for. Jesus already knows what we need.
When we learn what to ask for, let us be like that well-behaved “child”
and be blessed with miracles like Martha, Mary and others...so just be
still.

Thank you and may God add a blessing to the reader.

Just Be Still
Vernetha Mims 2001
When you are in stillness, you are restrained.  When you are restrained, you are obedient.  When you are obedient, you are not in God's way.  When you are not in God's way you are still...
You are blessing
