Cain, Melanie Starfleet Admiral, currently Chief of Starfleet Sciences Division. Admiral Cain was formerly Captain of USS Demeter. Admiral Cain first appeared in 25A, but only received her name in JR..
Cameron's Star A Federation world, first colonized by the explorer Todd Cameron of Earth. Cameron's World is considered one of the most enlightened Federation planets, and is a haven for artists, musicians, as well as the site of some of the finest learning centers in the Federation.

Camus II An uninhabited planet containing the ruins of a long-dead civilization. It was explored by a group of Federation scientists led by Janice Lester. ("Turnabout Intruder" [TOS])

Captain's Log The official Starfleet record of a starship's missions and exploits. Individual entries are entered by the ship's commanding officer.

Celebium Radiation A type of lethal radiation found on twelve Federaion systems, most notably Delta Centuri III and Camus II. ("Turnabout Intruder" [TOS])

Centauri VII Home planet of Taranallus, an artist of great renown. His most valuable and rare work is a self-published folio titled "The Creation".

Centurius System on the edge of the Romulan-Federaton Neutral Zone. Centurius III was once inhabited by Human colonists, before being destroyed over one hundred years ago in the Earth-Romulan War. The planet is still considered uninhabitable due to radiation levels. The entry refers to the war as the "First Romulan-Federation War", which is wrong since the war was fought between the Romulans and Earth around 2160 (the Federation hasn't been formed yet). The entry also places the war as having occurred one hundred years ago, which is also wrong since that would have placed the war in 2168, during the period in which there was no contact between the Federation and the Romulans from 2160 to 2266, by which time even if there were wars (the entry refer to the 'first' one), it could not possibly be "one hundred years ago". So, either the computer entry is wrong, or there were several secret wars fought between the Federation and the Romulans, the first one being in 2168.

Cephus V Planet. Following the recovery of the SS Shinobi from the entity Trelane by the USS Enterprise in 2269, the Shinobi left for Cephus V. ("No Man's Land" [JR])

Cheever, Dr. A member of the research staff on Station ARK-7. Dr. Cheever, together with Dr. Carol Marcus, was briefly taken prisoner by the Romulans when they raided ARK-7 in 2268. They were later rescued by the crew of the USS Enterprise. ("Love's Labor Jeopardized" [25A])
Chekov, Pavel Andreievich Chief Navigator of the USS Enterprise. Ensign Chekov has been decorated several times for valor.
Cheron A Class M planet near the galactic southern edge of Milky Way galactic barrier. Cheron was home to a humanoid culture with black and white skin and energy control powers. Minor variations in the pigment patterns triggered a race war which resulted in the destruction of all humanoid life on the planet. ("Let That Be Your Last Battlefield" [TOS])

Christgen III Originally a missionary colony, Christgen III has become, along with the worlds of Parliament and Babel, one of the three important centers of diplomacy in the Federation.
Chub A member of the Acolytes of the Stars sect on Nikolasi, a colony on Pollux V. Brother Chub was severely injured when he was apparently attacked by demons while attempting to rescue Brother Kandrey, who was trapped in a cave-in, and Chub subsequently suffered from the deadly Nugaireyn infection. Chub was saved when Dr. McCoy synthesized sufficient hypo-dytoxin from the local Laraxian berries to cure the infection. ("Demon World" [25A])
Cicissa The projection representative of the Gammans, a species which live on Onyius II. Cicissa thanked Captain Kirk for his actions in convincing the Alphans and the Omegans to join together and form the Gammans. Cicissa also informed Kirk that the entire episode was staged by the Brassica as a way of assessing whether the Federation was worthy of being contacted by them. ("Light and Darkness" [JR])
Class M The Federation designation for worlds that are potentially inhabitable by Humans.

Cloaking Device A device that deceives ship's scanners and visual recording equipment. Created by the Romulans, it may have been given to the Klingons in exchange for Klingon warp drive technology.
Cochrane, Zefram 21st Century Earth scientist, Cochrane revolutionized space travel in 2063 with the invention of the warp drive, making faster-than-light travel possible. Cochrane left Alpha Centauri at the age of 87 and is presumed to have died in space. ("Metamorphosis" [TOS]) The computer entry says that Cochrane was "born on a settlement orbiting Alpha Centauri", obviously this piece of fan-created information has been disavowed by the movie ST:FC.
Zefram Cochrane in "Metamorphosis" (TOS) Zefram Cochrane in ST:FC
Communications Station On a Federation starship, the bridge duty station for the ship's Communications Officer. The attending Communications Officer can monitor internal and external communications as well as engage the Universal Translator when needed.
Communicator A communication device used by Starfleet landing parties.
Compassion A massive Setic-class starship that was launched from the planet Shambram at an unspecified time in the past. The name of the starship signified the compassion for the ship's passengers, all of whom were mental patients diagnosed with life-quality-inhibiting disorders of Class III or higher. The Compassion was intended to return to Shambram within four generations, in the hopes that during this time research into the patients' conditions and treatment had progressed sufficiently to yield results. In 2269, the Compassion threatened to land on the capital city of Atabis, a planet in the Klingon Neutral Zone. The USS Enterprise and the IKS Pao Yar were sent to investigate the starship. During the investigation, it was found that the entire episode was staged by the Brassica, who wanted to assess whether to make contact with both the Federation and the Klingon Empire. ("Though This Be Madness..." [JR])
Computers Computational and recording devices employed by advanced cultures. Computers with advanced algorithms are common in the Federation, but true artificial intelligence has been difficult to develop. The development of positronic technology, as foreseen by some Federation cyberneticists, may allow for more flexibility in development. This entry is probably a reference to Data from TNG, who has a positronic brain.
Constellation, USS A Constitution-class starship commanded by Commodore Matthew Decker, which was destroyed in battle against an alien vessel believed to be a "Doomsday Machine". ("The Doomsday Machine" [TOS])

Constitution, USS The first Federation starship after which was named the class of all similar vessels. The Constitution became the Federation flagship, it is on the fifth year of a five year mission. It is commanded by Commodore Jake Aldrin; its First Officer is Commander Sasha Denard. Its current missions (non-classified) include: escorting diplomats to the Tholians, charting heavy graviton fluctuations near Omega Maelstrom, and investigating reports of a five hundred million year old Kikiroy Empire ship found adrift near Klingon Neutral Zone. Its designation is NCC-1700. This entry can only be found when searching under the topic "disruptors" in 25A, while in JR the entry can be found by its name but its current missions have been omitted.
Constitution-class starship As of 2269, the largest class of starship in the Federation, 289 meters overall length consisting of 23 decks configured with two outboard nacelles, a saucer module primary hull and a fuselage secondary hull.
Converter Assembly A device for housing the dilithium crystals that the starship uses to control warp drive and weapon systems.
Coridan A recently admitted Federation world, the Coridans have a history of conflicts with both the Tellarites and the Orions. ("Journey to Babel" [TOS])

Cortez
Spanish conquistador, responsible for the destruction of the Aztec civilization. ("The Feathered Serpent" [25A])
Cumulo-haevus A blood draining cloud that once wandered throughout the galaxy. It was first encountered in 2257 near Tycho IV, where it killed 200 crewmen aboard the USS Farragut. It was later encountered on Argus X by the crew of the USS Enterprise; the creature was tracked down to Tycho IV and killed with an anti-matter charge. ("Obsession" [TOS]) The ST Encyclopedia refers to the creature as "dikironium cloud creature".
Cyalodin A poison which kills with considerable pain, and leaves the victim mottled with blue lesions. Several members of the Starnes Expedition killed themselves with it. ("And the Children Shall Lead" [TOS])

Cygnet XIV
A Federation facility specializing in starship repair and maintenance. Cygnet XIV is located in the Cygnus system.
D

Damage Control A team of engineering specialists, trained to quickly repair critical systems in a short peroid of time during times of disaster. Cross-reference entry: Engineering.

Daran V A Federation colony in the Daran system with a population of nearly four million humanoids. Daran V was recently threatened when the asteroid-ship Yonada approached it on a collision course. Daran V was saved by the crew of the USS Enterprise. ("For the World is Hollow and I Have Touched the Sky" [TOS]) The entry misspelled "Yonada" as "Yanada".
Daystrom, Richard Widely considered the father of modern artificial intelligence, Dr. Daystorm is a legend in the world of computing. His invention of duotronics circuits in 2243 won him great accalim; His more recent multitronic experiments were less successful. Dr. Daystrom suffered a nervous breakdown following the failure of the M-5 tests and is recuperating in a Federation psychiatric facility. ("The Ultimate Computer" [TOS])
Death-grip, Vulcan A Vulcan martial maneuver, inspired by Human fascination with proto-Vulcan hand-to-hand combat techniques. The Vulcan death-grip has been depicted in several cinematic productions on ancient Vulcan. Though no actual death-grip technique is known, the larger than life depiction of this hold has captured the imagination of many cultures, and even the Klingons and Romulans believe that Vulcans practice this technique. ("The Enterprise Incident" [TOS])

Death Penalty The United Federation of Planets has made the death penalty under General Order Seven (high treason) which has been confused, in the past, with General Order Four. Both the Romulans and Klingons allow the death penalty and opt for slow and painful methods for implementation of same. ("The Menagerie" [TOS]) and ("Turnabout Intruder" [TOS]) Chekov confused General Order Seven with General Order Four in "Turnabout Intruder" (TOS).

Defiant, USS
A Federation starship that disappeared in 2268 near Tholian territory. The crew was lost to insanity, caused by interphasing between two universes. ("The Tholian Web" [TOS])

Devil
Also known as Satan, and Lucifer, the prime force of evil in the Christian and Islamic religions. ("Demon World" [25A])

Diagi Decision
A planetwide consensus conducted after a full generation of ethical debates on the planet Shambram, following the failure of the individual nation-state and the rise of pan-world participation in self-rulership. All mental patients suffering at Class III or higher were sent aboard a massive starship, the Compassion, which would embark on an interstellar journey and return within four generations, in the hopes that during this time, research into the patients' conditions and treatment had progressed sufficiently to yield results. ("Though This Be Madness..." [JR])

Digifal
A system near the Klingon Neutral Zone, Digifal contains two habitable planets, Digifal III and Digifal IV. Digifal III, also known as Zamphor, contains ruins of a civilization that abandoned the planet approximately twenty thousand years ago, and has been declared a protected world for archaeological reasons. ("The Feathered Serpent" [25A])
Dilithium Crystals These naturally forming crystals, found on worlds like Troyius and Avaton II, are used to channel energy from the matter-antimatter reactors into the warp engines, life support system and weapon systems. Because the crystals can deteriorate rapidly, under adverse conditions, a ready supply is part of the vital stores on a starship.
Diogenes A planet devoted to meetings and debates between galactic philosophers. The planet was named after a famous Greek philosopher who made the search for truth a lifelong quest.

Disruptors A Klingon weapons system, roughly equivalent to Federation phasers. Disruptors are believed to be less efficient than phasers in energy usage. Kilngons have both portable and ship-mounted versions.
Doover A multi-purpose engineering instrument. ("Another Fine Mess" [25A])
