J Janus VI Home to the silicon-based creature called the Horta. After a misunderstanding with Human miners, the creature collaborated with Humans in exposing rare minerals, making Janus VI one of the Federation's most important mining centers. ("The Devil in the Dark" [TOS]) Jefferson, SS A Class 7 research vessel chartered to the Izar Institute of Astronomy. Ship is commanded by a 6 person crew from the Starfleet Training Academy on Izar and is led by Cadet-Ensign Andre Picard. The purpose of the current cruise is to study a newly discovered black hole near Omega Maelstrom. The scientific expedition is led by Dr. Marius Tinka and includes 25 students. Note: Most of the students are in hibernation chambers, using the time to be mesmer-taught about the black hole and the background for their study. The "Andre Picard" in this entry could be a reference to Captain Picard of TNG. Jerion A grey-skinned race of the planet Shiva Omicron IV. Their bloody persecution of the other inhabitants of Shiva Omicron led to the Galahad Incident in 2208, the most serious violation of the Prime Directive. The Jerions were exterminated shortly after the incident. Jolan Tru A common Romulan saying, usually offered when departing from a friend. Federation phonemicists usually interpret this as serving the same linguistic function as "goodbye" and "good luck". ("Love's Labor Jeopardized" [25A]) The first use of this saying seems to have occured in "Unification" (TNG), although it could have first appeared elsewhere. |

Both are considered highly competent officers, with extensive battle experience. ("The Feathered Serpent" [25A]) K'Trhra-C Virus A Klingon computer virus program. In 2268, when the USS Enterprise's computer was infected by a Lucr computer virus, Lieutenant Uhura modified the K'Trhra-C virus to exclusively attack the Lucr virus, and the two viruses annihilated each other. Kling Core world of the Klingon Empire. Possibly mythical. Location unknown to Federation. "Kling" was initially intended as the name of the Klingon Homeworld before TPTB thought that the name sounded silly. The Klingon Homeworld was given the name "Qo'noS" in ST6.
Klingon Battle Cruiser Klingon D7-type starships that formed the backbone of the Klingon Defense Force for decades. These vessels are equipped with warp drive, and are armed with disruptors and photon torpedoes. The battle cruiser are similar in speed and maneuverability to a Constitution-class starship, but have slightly less firepower. The designs for the battle cruiser were shared with the Romulan Star Empire as part of an agreement for an alliance with the Romulans around 2268. In return, the Klingons have received specifications for the Romulan cloaking device, which has now been installed on most Klingon vessels, including the battle cruisers. | ![]() |

Klingon Empire The Klingon nation, founded some 1,500 years ago by Kahless the Unforgettable. First contact between the Klingon Empire and Earth took place in 2151, when a Klingon courier, Klaang, crash-landed on Earth after being pursued by the Sulibans. Although Earth returned Klaang to the Klingon Homeworld, hostilities between the two powers continued. By 2267, the Federation and the Klingon Empire were on the verge of war. Hostilities came to a head at planet Organia. Unknown to either combatant, the Organians were incredibly advanced noncorporeal lifeforms who imposed the Organian Peace Treaty on both parties, thus effectively ending armed hostilities. The Klingons entered into an alliance with the Romulan Star Empire around 2268, when an agreement between the two powers resulted in the sharing of military technology and spacecraft designs.
Klingons A humanoid lifeform that, it is suspected, has used genetic manipulation to stratify their population. Their homeworld is Qo'noS. Klingon culture is based on the principle of survival of the fittest, either through guile, or physical force. Principles of honour are used to prevent the culture from killing itself completely, but these principles are extended outside their species only to non-Klingons who have proved themselves in battles. Negotiations over planets in the disputed area have been slowly advancing, hindered by recent Klingon technological exchanges with the Romulans. The Klingon Empire itself is economically backward, and poorly organized, but their military force is extremely formidable. | ![]() |

L L'Shaians An humanoid alien race with green skin, six eyes, and six fingers on each hands. They were assumed to use Base Six for their mathematics. In 2268, a derelict L'Shaian vessel was found adrift in the Harrapa system and it was salvaged by the trader Harry Mudd. ("Another Fine Mess" [25A]) |

Laser An acronym for light amplified by stimulation emission of radiation; developments in laser technology led to the invention of phasers and disruptors. Light Year The distance light travels in a Terran year at 300,000,000 meters per second. This is approximately 9.46^12 kilometers. The entry erroneously states the speed of light at 30 million mps (one less zero), and a light year to be 3.86^16 km (wrong again). Lindalan, Sesha An Andorian, Sesha is a Vice-Consul for the Andorian Mining Consortium (AMC). He settled on Castus (Castor-B IV) because, he said, after seeing reports from his early surveying teams, he could not want to live anywhere but on a world of such beauty. It should be noted he said the same about his previous homes on Gamma Regulon IV and Tau Epsilon VII before AMC opened mining operations on them. According to the entry for "Flisna", Lindalan also maintains a villa outside Flisna, a settlement on Christgen III. |

The number 99 was known to have religious importance to them. ("That Old Devil Moon" [25A])
