Rand, Janice Starfleet officer, rank Yeoman. Currently assigned to the USS Enterprise. Her duties include Captain's Executive Assistant.
Rayner, Lucas Starfleet Captain, in command of the USS Alexander since Stardate 6033.4. Rayner's service chronicles an exemplary career including serving as Ensign, Lieutenant, Lieutenant Commander, and Commander aboard the USS Typhoon before transferring to the Alexander for his first command. Captain Rayner has been decorated on three occasions for bravery by Starfleet Command. ("Federation" [JR])
Red Alert The highest stage of alert aboard a starship, indicating imminent disaster. All duty personnel are required to go immediately to their posts during a Red Alert. Cross-refrerence entry: Yellow alert.
Remans The inhabitants of Remus, a planet in the Romulus system that was conquered several centuries ago by the Romulans. The Remans are believed to be used as slave labourers in the dilithium mines; current rebellions on Remus are a major problem for the Romulan Star Empire. This entry appears in both 25A (1991) and JR (1995), with Remans spelled "Remmens" and said to have come from "Remus III". The information more or less concurs with Star Trek: Nemesis (2002), which means that the Remus backstory was probably developed, possibly by fan-sources, well before the movie was released.
Remus One of the two homeworlds of the Romulan Star Empire. Remus is a tidally locked mining colony of Romulus; one side of the planet always faces the sun, forcing the native Remans to live on the dark side or deep underground. (ST:N)
Republic, USS Federation starship, Constitution-class, registry NCC-1371. The Republic was destroyed by the Vardaine in 2268 while under the command of Captain Richard Patterson and First Officer Commander Andrade. USS Republic was one of the first 13 Constitution-class starships built, it had a full crew of 430 persons and was engaged in a five year mission of exploration prior to her destruction. The Republic's missions (non-classified) included: Starfleet war games practice, delivering Federation investigative team to Vardaine, and sensor sweep of debris of Gadani supernova. ("Vengeance" [25A]) 25A and JR mistakenly list the Republic's registry as NCC-1373. The official registry, as given in the ST Encyclopedia, is NCC-1371.
Richards, Chris Starfleet Field Admiral, currently Chief of Starfleet Operations. Admiral Richards was formerly Captain of the USS Gallant. He also served with James Kirk aboard the USS Stalwart. Admiral Richards first appeared in 25A, but only received his name in JR.
Rigelian Fever A highly contagious and infectious disease with effects much like bubonic plague. A person can die of fever in a day. The only known antidote for Rigelian fever is ryetalyn. ("Requiem for Methuselah" [TOS])

Right of Statement
A statement made by a prisoner under threat of execution, granted the prisoner according to ancient Vulcan and Romulan tradition. This statement is meant to explain the prisoner's actions, motives and intentions and has been known in a couple of cases to externd for as long as a full Terran day. ("The Enterprise Incident" [TOS])
Romaine, Mira Starfleet officer, rank Lieutenant. On Romaine's first deep space assignment aboard the USS Enterprise, she was possessed by the alien entities known as the Zetars. The Zetars were subsequently destroyed by actions of the Enterprise crew. Lieutenant Romaine has been assigned to rebuilding Memory Alpha, which was destroyed by the Zetars. ("The Lights of Zetar" [TOS])
Romulan Bird of Prey A starship vessel of shared Romulan and Klingon design, this spacecraft bares a predatory bird insignia and possesses cloaking technology and plasma energy weapons. One fact which is known about this alien vessel is that it must decloak in order to fire its weapons, presumably because the cloaking device consumes so much power. Cross-reference entries: cloaking device and plasma torpedoes. Both 25A and JR make references to the bird-of-prey as warbirds.
Romulan Star Empire The formal name of the Romulan nation. An enigmatic offshot of the Vulcan civilization, now residing on planets Romulus and Remus. The ancient Romulans left Vulcan two millenia ago, in rebellion against Surak's philosophy of logic and pacifism. First contact between Earth and the Romulan Star Empire occured in 2152, when the Earth starship Enterprise NX-01 struck a cloaked mine in Romulan space, and was subsequently escorted away by Romulan vessels. Romulan aggression towards Earth led to a bitter war around 2160, which resulted in the establishment of the Romulan Neutral Zone, the violation of which was considered an act of war. The neutral zone remained unviolated until 2266, when a single Romulan bird-of-prey crossed into Federation space in a test of Federation resolve. The destruction of that bird-of-prey by the USS Enterprise averted an impending war by proving the Federation was strong enough to stand up to a Romulan offensive. The Romulans entered into an alliance with the Klingon Empire in 2268, when an agreement between the two powers resulted in the sharing of military technology and spacecraft designs.
Romulans A race descended from Vulcan stock, but one that did not reject aggression as the Vulcans did. On a sensor the two races appear very similar. Their individuals are known for being more passionate and emotional than their Vulcan counterparts. They currently use ships of Klingon design, suggesting to some the Klingons are maintaining them as a client state to antagonize the Federation in a move that circumvents the Organian Peace Treaty.
Romulus The name for the Romulan homeworld, location unknown.
Royal, Joshua Starfleet Admiral, currently Chief of Starfleet Security Division. Formerly Captain of the USS Meridian.
