Savant A cosmic entity which resided in a dimension within Antares Rift. The Savant was a being of pure emotion who had eons ago discarded its physical form to free itself from the bonds of suffering and pain. Although the Savant transcended the entire universe, it had chosen to manifest itself within that dimension. In 2269, while the USS Enterprise was on a survey mission in Antares Rift, the Savant had sensed that Commander Spock was a person who had denied himself emotions. The Savant subsequently brought Spock into its dimension and provided him with joy and happiness in order to enhance his life. An away team led by Captain Kirk followed Spock into the Savant's dimension and were able to retrieve Spock. The seventeenth letter of the Lucrs alphabet is named Scythe, probably not by coincidence. ("That Old Devil Moon" [25A]) Sensors Starfleet technology, allowing a nearly instantaneous survey of distant objects. Seransi A large, influential extended-family among several, controlling Lachian. ("Museum Piece" [JR]) Shambram The planet from which a massive starship, the Compassion, which carried large numbers of mental patients, was launched from at an unspecified time in the past. Previously, differing personal philosophies, ethical structures, and belief systems, had repeatedly plunged the people of Shambram into destructive conflicts on both massive and individual scales. Eventually, the intellectuals on Shambram were able to set upon the population a new culture emphasizing upon the tolerance of differences among individuals, maximization of self-actualization of all individuals, and paradoxical taboo against intolerance and bigotry. Sheme, Menao Vardaine soldier who, in 2269, was part of Dr. Ies Breddell's faction onboard Espoir Station. Menao Sheme is the son of deceased Vardaine official Vakada Sheme. Captain Kirk told Sheme that Breddell planned to kill billion of innocent lives by destroying the entire Federation, and convinced Sheme to turn against Breddell so as to prevent this tragedy. Following Breddell's capture, Sheme decided to join Starfleet and was accepted into Starfleet Academy. In 2260, Sheme was executed for attempting to expose a covert Vardaine Constitution-class starship building program to the Federation. Sherman's Planet A planet of dispute in 2267 between the Federation and the Klingon Empire. According to the Organian Peace Treaty, the planet would go to the side who could better develop the planet. The Federation claim was based on a large shipment of quadrotriticale, which would have grown in abundance on the planet. The shipment was lost when it was contaminated with a ravenous species known as the tribbles, but the Federation was awarded the planet anyway when it was discovered that a Klingon agent had poisoned the grain before the tribbles had gotten to it. Shields Force fields generated by a starship to deflect oncoming matter such as micrometeorites; in the unfortunate event of combat, they also serve as a defensive system. Shinobi, SS A Federation freighter, commanded by Captain Gretel Gernsbeck. In 2269, the SS Shinobi disappeared in the Delphi system along with two other Federation starships. It was later discovered that the entity known as Trelane was responsible for their disappearance, and all three starships were recovered by the USS Enterprise. Following its recovery, the Shinobi left for Cephus V. ("No Man's Land [JR]) Shiva Omicron A star system in Federation space; Shiva Omicron IV has begun preliminary negotiations to join the Federation. Shiva Omicron IV is inhabited; sixty years ago (in 2208), the Galahad Incident resulted in the extermination of the entire Jerion race on the planet. |

Ueoros is a developing civilization protected by the Prime Directive from Federation interference, currently at 21st Century Earth levels of technology. It is a prime candidate for a Federation first contact team, which will be decided next year by the Federation Council Sub-committee on first contacts. Singh, Khan Noonien SEE: Khan. Sirius The brightest star visible from Earth. There are no inhabited planets in the Sirius system. Smithsonian Annex A large museum at Nova Atar III, with exhibits ranging from some of the earliest technology in the galaxy to the most recent declassified recoveries of salvaged Klingon wreckage. The museum administration ban equipment from being brought into the museum. A force field also protects the museum from an intruding transporter beam. Space Amoeba A massive spaceborne organism that consumed the Gamma 7A system and the USS Intrepid in 2268. The space amoeba was some 18,000 km long and about 3,000 km wide, surrounded by a large energy-absorbing field. The creature was believed to originate from outside our galaxy. The amoeba was destroyed by the USS Enterprise using an anti-matter bomb. In 2269, following the destruction of a rogue Romulan bird-of-prey (which had already destroyed the bird-of-prey Infinitus) by the USS Enterprise, Commander Starius thanked Captain Kirk for responding to the Infinitus' distress call. Starius then offered to Kirk an exchange of information regarding an alien race called the Brassica. ("Though This Be Madness..." ("And the Children Shall Lead" [TOS]) Starship A spacefaring craft that travels between star systems. The Federation has thousands of licensed starships, the largest of which (as of 2269) are the Constitution-class starships of Starfleet. |

Stonrak A binary system near the Klingon-Federation Neutral Zone. The first and only planet in the system, Stonrak I, is the site of a Vulcan style monastery. Strahkeer A Klingon world in the disputed Klingon-Federation Neutral Zone. Strahkeer was the last planet to be conquered by the Klingon General Aragaz the Glorious, and is one of the richest and most advanced worlds in the entire empire. The planet was recognized by the Federation as a Klingon world by the Organian Peace Treaty. Subspace Spatial continuum resulting from the effects of warp drive. |
