A secondary wave of heavy elements that was produced by the supernova is currently being studied by Federation authorities. Galactic Barrier An energy field, possibly artificial in origin, that delineates the boundaries of the Milky Way Galaxy. Crossing the galactic barrier is extremely hazardous, even for the most advanced starships and has, on two instances, caused mutation of Humans possessing elevated esper levels. The barrier is currently being studied by a Starfleet research team headed by Vulcan plasma field physicist Chovok. Starfleet directives forbid ships to cross the barrier without authorization. ("Where No Man Has Gone Before" [TOS])

The Gammans have an extremely high reproductive rate, healthy metabolism, and long life span. They are expected to terraform the entire planet in approximately one million years. ("Light and Darkness" [JR])
