Project - Water Tank

The filtered water needed to be stored in a sanitary holding tank. We built a new tank on the hill above the village. It was over ten feet tall and held hundreds of gallons of purified water. It was built in five stages, each one resting on the previous one. Years of experience taught Mike and his team just how much stone, sand, concrete and water was needed to make a solid tank. The finished tank was decorated with a Biblical verse in Lahu and a handprint from each team member.

The ground was leveled for the water tank before our arrival.

We learned the art of bending and tying rebar. We forgot to put the pipes in the ground first and had to go back and put them in before pouring the concrete.

The base and the first level were pretty easy. Everyone could reach it to pour the concrete into to mold. Subsequent levels required lifting hundreds of buckets of concrete over our heads.

Level two is done. We did level two and three on the same day.

The top layers were even too tall for Bob and me. The villagers built ladders out of bamboo and carried the cement buckets to the top..

The landscape of the village is permanently changed. All five layers are up and ready for final coating.

Even the rain did not stop progress. The tank was covered with special spackle and then painted white.

Our masterpiece. John 7:38 Jesus Christ said: He who believes in Me, out of his heart will flow rivers of Living Water.
