JK Steals One from R-Mo, 52-51

Jones/Klingman (2-0) equaled their franchise best fifth straight win with a thriller over Rick Moses, 52-51. Peyton Manning accounted for 32 points with four TD passes and a TD run. It was the 1 yard Manning run that was the back breaker for R-Mo. Here is the play by play from the Buffalo one.
  • 1-1 at BUF 1 Edgerrin James (IND) rushed up the middle for no gain.
  • 2-1 at BUF 1 Edgerrin James (IND) rushed up the middle for no gain.
  • 3-1 at BUF 1 Peyton Manning (IND) rushed right side for a 1 yard touchdown.
Edgerrin James was R-Mo's back. Although he had a good game with nine points, getting stuffed twice at the goal line resulted in a 12 point swing and a JK victory.

Manning's 32 points carried what was an otherwise weak line-up to victory. Only Curtis Martin managed a TD among the rest of the team.

R-Mo got a good game from Philly's QBs with three scores, but an injury to another Philly player, Duce Staley, may have done him in. Marcus Robinson's return and reunion with Chicago QB Jim Miller may mean good things to this team which is weak at the WR position.

Ricker 67 Cantrell 12

After having a simply terrible week 1, Ricker roared back with a total stomping of Cantrell. Most of it was due to the Ram's QBs scoring 21 points, but heads up starts of two players on bad teams, Travis Henry and Johnnie Morton, contributed to the rout. Green Bay's D iced the cake Monday with a fumble return and the first pure shutout of the season.

Cantrell has been hurt by Randy Moss' slow start. He managed a bonus point out of Moss and a couple other guys, but no touchdowns this week. His 0-2 record and 37 total points this season should give Hank the pick of the litter on week 3 claim day.

Best 31 Brown 27

The two highest scoring teams from week one played a tight, low scoring, nip and tuck Monday night battle in week 2. After Sunday's results, Brown led 21-18. Best grabbed the lead Monday night with four first half points from Ryan Longwell. Brown seized it back with a quick scoring slant from Bill Schoeder. Yet in the end, a few more Longwell kicks sealed the victory for Best.

Brown's loan TD was a 94 yard catch from Jamal Anderson. Jerome Pathon also scored on a bomb, but Pathon was not started. He's on this week's Splinter Squad

Despite another poor game from the Vikings, Best managed to win. Culpepper thre one TD and Corey Dillon caught one. That set the stage for Longwell's Monday heroics.

Outlaw 47 Jackson 44

Bubba Franks scored the winning TD as Outlaw rallied on Monday night to get past Jackson who is 0-2 despite scoring 41 and 44 points in the two games this year. Outlaw entered the game expecting either Stephen Davis or Ahman Green to score, but both only managed bonus points setting up Franks as the hero. Franks was a claim this week as a replacement for the injured Ed McCaffery. Want more evidence of Outlaw's brilliance? Despite a quiet week 1, Outlaw kept James Thrash in the lineup and was rewarded with 16 points.

Monday night was cruel to Jackson in other ways. Outlaw rallied late, his beloved Redskins were humiliated on national TV and Jackson's second string QB, Brett Favre, scored 18 points.

Deitrich 42 Cousins 24

Bud is off the snide thanks to a relatively easy win over Cousins. Bud got 20 from Denver QBs, 14 from Wade Richey and an int return from his Oakland D. What he didn't get was points from any of his RBs and WRs. All recorded 0's. Even worse, Fred Taylor suffered his annual injury. The groin may keep him out for a while.

Combined, the Calvin's are 0-4 this season. Calvin Cousins is hampered by the slow start of Tennessee as the QBs and Eddie George are struggling. Curtis Conway scored for his lone TD.

McCowan 52 Brad Moses 34

2-0 McCowan is the validictorian of the class of '01. He's the only rookie to be undefeated two games in. He's also the answer to the question that was on everyone's mind Sunday afternoon: "Who owns Marvin Harrison?". Harrison scored three quick TDs for 20 points. Rod Smith was no slouch either with 15 points. These two wideouts more than compensated for getting no points from the QB position, the Giants.

Brad Moses should be given credit for scoring 34 points with one of the most depleted lineups in memory. Remember, two teams will make the playoffs based on total points. Last season we often referred to Brad as Grandma Moses for his propensity for having awful weeks. Going into this game it looked like Grandma was on life support due to 7 players missing due to bye and injury. He got most of his points from for his back up QB, Atlanta. He could have had more if the commisoner had not voided his claim of Az Hakim by ruling that the postponed week did not give owners the ability to claim players dropped after week 1.

Week 2: The Season Resumes

The NFL is a part of American life. We play a role in the healing process by playing our games, honoring the victims of the Sept 11 terrorist attacks and to salute the heroes of the rescue and recovery mission. - NFL Commissioner Paul Tagliabue

While fantasy football seems insignificant compared to what has happened in the last nine days, it is significant because it is something we all "like to do". As I continue to process the tragic events of September 11, I have come to realize what we "like to do" is important. If we continue to live in a numbed and fearful state, and shun the things that "we like to do", we have given a victory to the terrorists. I look forward to again seeing games this Sunday to cheer on my favorite NFL team and fantasy players. While "Silent Sunday" last week allowed us a chance to reflect, it also gave us a chance to grow our appreciation for things that we like to do. That is our freedom, our right.

Let's play...

A modest 3-3 in week 1...always a tough week to read. With that in mind, an impressive 3-3 in week 1.

Ricker vs Cantrell (-1.0)

Both these teams had a severe power outage in week 1. Cantrell's 'Hawks didn't hit pay dirt versus Cleveland(?!) and Ricker's high flying Rams were held in check by Philadelphia. Cantrell's Seahawks get Philly this week. For Ricker's Rams, a familar haunt, San Francisco, where a high scoring game is likely. Ricker will record an easy "W" keeping Hank winless.

Brown (-17.0) vs Best

Nander Brown came out hot with a league rookie record 71 points in his first game. Best, notched a very quiet 54, his victory clouded by the fact that his Vikings were upset by the Panthers. The Vikings seek to cure their offensive woes against Chicago. Traditionally these teams light up the scoreboard. Nander's Oakland QBs have a matchup at Miami. Under normal circumstances Oakland rarely does well when traveling to the East, so expect them to be held in check this week. Best takes command in the division with this win.

Rick Moses vs Jones/Klingman (-2.0)

With three wins on their way to the championship last season and an easy dispatching of Cousins in week 1, JK is on a four game roll. One more win and they will equal their franchise best. R-Mo slipped by powerful Bud in his BRFL debut last week and has a problem few of us have ever had: four solid backs - one of whom is Edgerrin James. James should be able to offset JK's best weapon, Indy QBs. R-Mo in a walk.

Deitrich (-11.0) vs Cousins

Bud's was nipped by old TWFL pal Rick Moses in week 1, but may have come out a winner in the long run by snagging Eddie Kennison in our week 2 free agent draft to pair up with his Denver QBs. Denver faces Arizona, yes they are still in the league on Sunday night. Cousin's Titans were cancelled out on a nice confidence building game with the Bengals. Now they face Jacksonville on the road and are staring down games against Baltimore and Tampa Bay following a bye. It could be a while before CC records his first win. Bud looking good here.

Outlaw vs Jackson (-1.0)

For the second week in a row, the schedule pairs the five rookies against league veterans, so this is the only BRFL game with any history behind it. Outlaw leads the 12 year old series 7-6. In week 1, both of these teams had impressive performances but lost their games. It is a shame that one of these guys goes 0-2. It won't be Outlaw, I think he has enough to take out Jackson, but just barely in a close one.

Brad Moses vs McCowan (-9.0)

The question of the week is whether B-Mo can field a team. He will certainly have to dip deep into the SR wires to fill more than a couple positions. The byes of Tampa and New Orleans are his biggest but temporary problem. Now Terrell Davis is contemplating some more knee surgery. Oops... that email beep I just heard was the footballguys reporting that Davis is definitely out. B-Mo now has 7 of his 13 players not on the field for this week. DMC gets the opportunity to kick him when he is down and move to a surprising 2-0, given the relative strength and equality of this division.
