Outlaw fell short on his second consecutive bid to rally on Monday night. Going into the game, McCowan led 37-36, with Kevan Barlow going for Outlaw. Barlow did not score, but ended up with 93 total yards. ON Outlaws bencher were Travis Taylor and Peter Warrick, both of whom scored. The starting Jacksonville QBs scored 6 points, but the Baltimore QBs scored 12. The tools were there, but Outlaw chose not to use them.

McCowan's strek of 52 point games is over. His 37 this week included 19 from his QB team, Kansas City. He had 0 last week from the Giants. Those gaiuns did quite off set the drop in production for Rod Smith and Marvin Harrison. They had only a bonus point (Smith) combined Sunday down from combined 35 points in week 2.

You would have thought that with an upcoming game against Bud, JK would have been spewing venom all over the forum, but instead they behaved like two innocent alter boys. Perhaps that explains while they got so much production out of a Priest. Priest Holmes that is. Holmes tallied 22 points. It is amazing that JK every so often gets incredible production out a lightly regarded players:
  • -In 1993, A forgotten Arizona running back named Ron Moore was in last place JK's line-up scoring 26 points in a shocking upset of Montgomery in the first round of the playoffs.
  • -1997, James Stewart, then with Jacksonville, scored a BRFL record 31 points. Stewart was considered so mediocre at the time that only 30 percent of all leagues in ESPN's fantasy league had him on a roster and only 10 percent of those teams started him.
Holmes stunning production made up for a sub par day by Peyton Manning, who had been carrying JK so far this year. After Bud rallied to tie, Curtis Martin took over with two scores on Monday night...

JK was not the only one to profit from a retread running back in their line-up. Bud got 15 points from New England's Antowain Smith. Last year he was know as "Antowain Stiff" as he languished on Buffalo's bench a year ago. Also, someone who no one had heard of a week before, Correll Buckhalter scored 8 points in the Sunday night game. The 1-2 start is the worst since Bud started 0-4 in 1998. Bud is 3-3-3 in his last nine games.

Ricker 54 Best 38

Kurt Warner tossed four TDs, one to Torry Holt, as Ricker easily topped Best 54-38. The 54 points has been what Ricker has been averaging against Best since 1997. The sixteen point margin could be attributed to a timely SR. Ricker, who has usually been known to fumble kickers, picked up New England's Adam Vintieri. Given the Patriots output this season, this did not appear to be a threat, but Vinatieri accounted for 16 points as the Patriots stunned the Colts.

Despite suffering his first loss of the year, there is a silver lining for Best. The Vikings won and it looks like that will be competative again. Also a number of players that Best considers for a "fifth" starter scored: James McKnight, Terrance Mathis and Ron Dayne.

Nander Brown rebounded from a week 2 loss as Oakland QBs scrored 24 and Marshall Faulk 21. The news is hardly celebretory as Jamal Anderson was lost for the season with a torn ACL. Anderson's back up, BRFL free agent, Maurice Smith scored an eye opening 16 points. Expect claim day to be known as "Tuesday with Morrie"...

With only 23 points, expect Cantrell to the the first in line for "Tuesday with Morrie". Randy Moss has still not scored this year, and Hank has absolutely 0 points from his QB position each week (Seattle (1), NYJ (2&3).

Jackson 50 Brad Moses 28

Calvin switched quarterbacks from San Francisco to Green Bay. Favre scored 21 points against Carolina, as Jackson left Brad Moses as chewed up as the Ericsson Stadium turf. Old Man Jerry Rice scored twice and the man that ran hiom out of San Francisco, Terrel Owens, scored once on Monday night.

Brad Moses has a scapegoat for his sluggish play of late: Osama bin Laden. Moses got all his Saints and Buccaneers back, but they all looked rusty after a 21 day layoff. One bright spot was Michael Pittman. Moses had to jump through a couple hoops to land Pittman as the "line-up police" twarted his initial moves. Pittman hadn't played all year, but did score this week.

Rick Moses 43 Cousins 19

It was a walk in the park for R-Mo this week as he got three touchdowns from Ladainian Tomlinson and Philly's QBs. Not bad numbers considering that Edgerrin James only netted a bonus point and Duce Staley sat out with an injury. Only bad news was a minor injury to Ricky Watters, but R-Mo has his backup Shaun Alexander.

Another awful week for Cousins. In three games, he has recorded two TDs from his RBs and WRs, both by Curtis Conway, one last week and one this week. Next week he gets Eddie George and Tennessees QBs back from their bye, but they are play at Baltimore.

Week 3 Preview

Divisons Should Tighten Up After Week 3

Currently a 2-0 team leads each division, but all three of those teams face a very tough opponent in week 3. In the East, the leagues only two time champs, Best and Ricker, face off. In the Central, the recently bitter rivals JK and Deitrich go at it. In the West, Outlaw seeks to tame the upstart McCowan.

I was two points away from 6-0 last week, failing in R-Mo's loss to JK. The 5-1 helps make me 8-4 for the year.

Ricker (-3) (1-1) vs Best (2-0)

After scoring the least points in the league in week 1, Ricker roared back to life in week 2, scroing the most. Best got very lucky in week 2 by squeaking past Brown on Monday night. This game features a battle of the top QB teams of the last couple seasons. Ricker's Rams vs Best Vikings. Both these team feature a QB-WR combo. This week both QB teams are at home against very tough defenses. The Rams play Miami where the Vikings play the bucks. Given this season's results so far, you have to favor Ricker. This Rams are not struggling where as the Vikings are. League history is on Ricker's side as well, as he usual defeats Best. This includes their last matchup, week 13 in 2000 when Ricker won 68-60 and elimated Best from playoff contention.

Brown (-30.5) (1-1) vs Cantrell (0-2)

Brown was the king of week 1, but he stumbled badly in week 2. Thoughts are thay he turns it around this week. Oakland is back on the West coast, facing a pretty limp Seattle team. Marshall Faulk was all over the firls last week, but not in the end zone. Jamal Anderson faces the traditionally week Arizona run defense.

He's not "Hammerin'" Hank, He's more "Hammered Hank", and things don't look so good this week either. As this weeks winner of the "Stacey Mack sweepstakes", he will probably do better than his league low 18 points a game, but it would take more than twice that to defeat Nander.

Rick Moses (-20) (1-1) vs Cousins (0-2)

Another battle of rookies. R-Mo was a point away from being 2-0 after he fell 52-51 to Jones/Klingman. The Eagles get get to hammer Dallas this week. Although R-Mo got scooped in the Correl Burkholder sweepstakes this week, not having Duce Staley in the lineup will solve his running back quandry.

You can "forget the Titans" this week, they are on a bye. But they have been pretty forgettable all season long as Cousins has been winless and can expect to stay that way against a tough opponent like R-Mo. R-MO has played two close games. This one will be a breather.

Deitrich (1-1) vs Jones/Klingman (2-0) (-7)

Perhaps this is the week that JK breaks his forum silence and treats us to a tirade on Bud. A couple seasons back Bud faced JK and claimed all available halfway decent QBs in special reserve. JK with his team on a bye, we stuck with the dregs and predicably was trounced. That is not the problem here. JK owns the Indy QBs and Peyton Manning has been unstoppable. Some may stop them some week, but it is unlikely to be the pitiful Patriots.

The second best QB team in the league has been Denver, Bud's team. However, they are facing the Ravens. The Ravens are supposed to be the Super Bowl champs, but they have played poorly in two games vs the Bears and the Bengals, who upset them.

This is a tough pick, as this is clearly the leagues marquee games this week. However, the thought here is Griese is a capable match for Manning and Bud's remaining seven should out score JKs.

Outlaw (1-1) vs McCowan (2-0) (-8)

In the write up covering week 2, I raved about Outlaw's starting decisions and they are worth mentioning again. Bubba Franks off the waiver wire. James Thrash, who 98 percent of fantasy owners would have buried on their roster after week 2, went berserk scoring 16 points. "So what", sniffs McCowan, who is used to those kind of numbers from the likes of Marvin Harrison and Rod Smith. Last week, these players served DMC well as he got no QB production from the Giants. It might be a tough go for the Giants in the first NFL game played in New York (OK, Jersey) since the attacks. They get the Saints who are rested, very rested, with a bye week plus.

Outlaw has a three pronged QB attack between Baltimore, Jacksonville and Miami. Each one shows potential this week. Kevan Barlow should start in San Fran, forcing Outlaw to chose between which rookie, Barlow or Michael Bennett to start along side the productive Ahman Green and the overdue Stephen Davis. Outlaw should topple the rookie McCowan from his BRFL perch.

Brad Moses(1-1) vs Jackson (0-2) (-4.5)

The are no pushovers in the wild wild West division. Despite being 0-2, Jackson is one of the most consistent scoring teams in the league, averaging 43 points a game. He is achingly due for a little luck. He has favorable matchups for either of his Green Bay or San Francisco QBs.

To cover his bye last week, Moses had to fill out is roster with refugees from the XFL. Not quite, but when you hit a bye early in the seasons as B-Mo did, the available talent level is pretty scarce. This week, B-Mo gets most of his players back, but they face tough teams as the Saints play at NYG and Tamps is at Minnesota.

If you notice the pattern so far, I have made picks taht would left each division with 3 2-1 teams and one 0-3 team. Not in the West, I'm going against the grain and picking Calvin to get off the snide.
