Last season they did their usual "back in" to the playoffs routine, then reeled off three straight wins in the playoffs as Marshall Faulk
ran wild with 11 TDs in those three weeks. This season, they seemed to be content to rest on the laurels. They "drafted like they were
hungover" said one veteran BRFL draft watcher. However, after four weeks, their critics are wrong. JK is for real. They have
won four straight. The first two weeks they did it with Peyton Manning, the last two weeks, they have done it without him.
The win is JK's seventh straight. Losers their entire career, they are inching toward .500 mark in the All Time Standings. This week they did it with the Bengals at QB, and steady Curtis Martin running the ball. Last weeks phenom, Priest Holmes, even had a 100 yard game. A tough week for Outlaw as he falls to 1-2-1 and last the tight central. Outlaw's players, James Thrash, Bubba Franks and Travis Taylor have all had good weeks this year, but this week all were quiet. |

Rick Moses 70 Ricker 31The battle of the "ricks" was no battle at all. Rick Moses got another solid game from Philly QBs and Ladainian Tomlinson. Injuries? No problem, just plug Shawn Alexander in for Ricky Watters and score 15 points. A 96 yard Defensive TD helps too. After the dust settled, it was 70-5 R-Mo. An insurmontable lead even with the Rams and two wideouts going Monday. Ricker's goal was to make it respectable and score as many points as possible, so Warner and Holt did their parts to close the gap. |
|
|
Jackson 52 Cantrell 37Jerry Rice joined his former teammates Garcia and Owens in the endzone as Jackson improved to 2-2. The tight West division has Jackson right in the middle, a 1/2 game back. The win was also the 120th of Jackson's career (against 99 losses). |
|
|
Best 33 McCowan 30Best got 15 points from Minnesota QBs and won again despite the Vikings losing. Best is 3-1 and the Vikes 1-3: Best has won each of the games the Vikings lost. The only other TD for Best was a one yard Jason Taylor fumble return for Miami. Best three wins have all come against rookie teams. McCowan's points came from the Giant's QBs and Lamar and Rod Smith. Despite the loss, McCowan holds on to the West lead at 2-1-1. The division is tight as a game separates all four teams. The game was Best's 200th career BRFL game, joining Jackson and Czupryna as BRFL vets that have played 200 games. Best also won his 100th game, vs CZ, in 1994. |

Brown 47 Deitrich 16Brown had pretty good scoring with some in reserve in a surprisingly easy romp over Deitrich. Todd Pinkston scored twice and Bill Schoeder and Rich Gannon scored once. Marshall Faulk also scored, but was regulated to mop-up duty on Monday. The "Move of the Week" was the addition pof Marty Booker. Brown SR'ed him on his bye week and then excerised his right of first refusal to claim Booker on Monday. Booker caught a TD and threw one. The horrible starts by Cantrell and Cousins have hidden the fact that the winniest active BRFL team is stinking it up this year. Deitrich is 1-3. His one win: week 2 over cousins. It is his worst start since 1998 when he went 0-4 and missed the playoffs. Bud's problem? His players (RB and WR) simply are not scoring. Only Antowain Smith and Correll Buckhalter have recorded points for Bud in the last three weeks. Things might get better when Fred Taylor returns, but the problem isn't with his backs, it is with his recievers. Bud has started 15 receivers in the four games this season and has netted 0 points. |

|
Brad Moses 32 Cousins 29Cousin's near victory was mostly the responsibility of the Giants Defense. They had 14 of the 29 points. The aforementioned Az Hakim and Wesley Walls also scored. They became first players other than Curtis Conway to score touchdowns for Cousins this year. Incidently Conway dropped a ball in the end zone at the end of his game. His drop not only caused the Chargers to lose, but Cousins as well. "Grandma" Moses had four QBs on his roster this week and only one (Pittsburgh) scored a TD. |

Week 4 Preview |

You can tell thinks are slack at work as the website
gets a little prettier (
Check Out Week 3 ) and current and I take the time to dream up obscure
stats like these: What is the tougher league, the BRFL or the TWFL? Take a look at this statistic. Teams that are in both the BRFL and the TWFL are are a combined 4-8 in the BRFL and 10-2 in the TWFL. The TWFL's top four teams are the four teams that also play in the BRFL. Cantrell, 0-3 in the BRFL; 3-0 in the TWFL. Rick and Brad Moses and TWFL commissioner Deitrich have one more win in the TWFL than they do in the BRFL. Jones/Klingman is 3-0, they are the first defending champion to go 3-0 since Czupryna started 6-0 in 1992. Cantrell and Cousins still have a long way to go to match the league record of starting 0-10 held by two teams: Howrigon in 1991 and Adam Barry in 1995. Both teams won in week 11 against Jones/Klingman. Only one of the teams will get there: Cantrell and Cousins meet in week 6. By the way, they both play Jones Klingman: Cantrell in week 9, Cousins in week 12. McCowan achieved a tie in his third game becoming the second fastest BRFL team to do so. Stroupe tied his first BRFL game in 1990, Deitrich his fourth in 1994. Mosakowski-Hale never tied in 78 games betweem 1995-99. Other than the tie, only JK stumped me last week. 4-1-1 to go 12-5-1 - .694 (Hell that's almost as good as the Mariners) |
Ricker (2-1) (-4.3) at R-Mo's Traveling
Circus (2-1)
A good game featuring two top QBs: ST Louis and Philadelphia. Both QBs facing awful teams. STL vs Detroit and Philly home against Arizona. R-Mo will not have Edgerrin James this week and will start the game with three WRs. If you witnessed R-Mo's RB-heavy draft, you know that this is not a good thing. Expect this to be another week where Ricker's "load up on St Louis" strategy works. as both Bruce and Holt come up huge against the Lions. |
BossStangs (-9.3)
(2-1) at Bud's Bastards (1-2) Bud's "rent-a-back" service vultures Aaron Stecker. Some smart money says that he, rather than Mike "My guns are too big to hold on to the ball" Alstott, is the Warrick Dunn replacement. So we shall see if he is this week's Correll Buckhalter, who Bud claimed last week and got a TD + 2 bonus. Nander's Oakland QBs were supposed to have a bye this week, but the home game against Dallas was moved up to week 4 to avoid a potential baseball conflict. Nander should start Raiders at QB/RB/WR against the pathetic Cowboys. Expect Brown to send Bud to very un-Bud-like 1-3. |
Cantrell (0-3) at Jackson (1-2) (-25.3)
Desperate to score his first QB points of the season, Cantrell turns to Cleveland(!?) But playing at the bottom has it's advantages, as Hank was able to win the "Tuesday with Morrie" contest and pick up Maurice Smith, thus far resisting trades. But no one is more overdue than Randy Moss. The Vikes went to a "dink and dunk" offense that favors Cris Carter, the tight ends and backs. Moss seeks to repeat his 2000 playoff performance against the saint where he outran them for two long scores. Jackson won last week with Green Bay QBs, but matchups favor San Francisco at home against the Panthers. The Panthers have traditionally played well in San Francisco and have produced high scoring games. The pick here is Jackson, barely, as this game will serve notice that Cantrell is making moves and will be force to be reckoned with soon. |
Simply the Best (2-1) at Margaritaville
Parrotheads (2-0-1) (-6.0) For the second week in a row, McCowan has the good fortune of having his QB team face the Redskins should he go with the Giants. Unfortunately for DMC, Best may have that covered as he will start the featured back and WR of the Giants in Ron Dayne and Amani Toomer. Best hopes for continued improvement with the Viking combo of Culpepper and Carter, but that might be tough call against the Saints. A bye will cost DMC leading wideout Mavin Harrison while Tony Richardson is doubtful. Best will be at full strength. Expect a mild upset as Best takes a squeaker. |
JonesKlingman (3-0)
(-9.7) at Outlaw (1-1-1) The lone team with a bye this week? Indianapolis. Peyton Manning has to stay home and watch cooking shows on Direct-TV. That's too bad as he probably really wanted to play after getting thrashed by New England. Speaking of getting "thrashed". It's about time for James "Every other week a stud" Thrash to light it up. He faces Arizona on the throw rug at home. Last year JK whipped Outlaw 64 - 48, ending a three game losing streak against Outlaw. Speaking of streaks, JK puts a personal best six game winning streak on the line here. The pick is Outlaw. Manning is on a bye and although 3-0 JK is still hearing the echos of last year's championship season, but the are false echos: Priest Holmes ain't Marshall Faulk. |
Cousins (0-3) at Brad Moses (1-2) (-12.3) B-Mo's followed a good move with a bad one. He picked up Garrison Hearst after Jackson, for some stupid reason, let him go. Then to make room for Hearst, B-Mo drops Michael Pittman. After that huge fuss late last week, followed by a solid game by Pittman and suddenly he's waiver bait. From a line-up choice standpoint, B-Mo has once against painted himself into a corner with three injured players and he goes out and SRs two terrible QB teams: The Lions(?), Pittsburgh(?). He's carrying 4 QBs this week. Cousins hopes a TD from someone other than Curtis Conway. Eddie George hopes to get going, but faces the Ravens. Ditto McNair. Had Tiki Barber not been hurt, he would have been putting up the Priest Holmes numbers this week against the Skins. Problem is that Cousins doesn't have enough this week. Too bad as Moses definitely has on the shawl, support hose and blue hair. |
