A couple weeks ago, David Boston and Randy Moss were having relatively unproductive seasons and their owners gladly gave them up to Brad Moses
for running backs. I guess what their owners didn't realize is that there was a bunch of pent up touchdowns ready to come out. Last week
both Moss and Boston scored, this week they exploded. David Boston had two TDs Sunday and Randy Moss had three on Monday night. The
total tally between the two of them: 35 points. While the owners that gave up Boston and Moss got pretty good value in return, they are
getting nowhere near this level of production.
The wideouts contributed to what was B-Mo's best BRFL day ever. But it could have been better. Antonio Freeman also scored and New Orleans QBs accounted for three scores. Mike Anderson and Garrison Hearst only accounted for two points. If B-Mo walks away feeling a little empty this week, it is because he benched the "star of the week", the NY Jets defense. They accounded for 25 points with two TD picks and a pure shutout. Brad chose to start Pittsburgh. They had a decent day with 6 points, 19 less than the Jets. Swap the Jets into the lineup and B-Mo would have scored 95! That's five more than the league record. That record, held by three teams, still stands at 90. Ironically, it was tied last week by Rick Moses. So Brad Moses misses out on the league record, but most importantly misses out on setting the "Moses family" record. Ricker was hoping that 51 points were going to bust his slump, and in all but one other BRFL game this year, 51 is good enough for a win. His Ram combo netted him 29 points and the two guys he got from B-Mo for David Boston, Mike Alstott and Warrick Dunn, netted him 11. With the loss and a win by Cantrell, Ricker tumbles to last in the East at 3-7. However, he has enough points to qualify for the playoffs. In that respect, 51 in a losing effort isn't that bad. |

Cantrell 39 Rick Moses 30R-Mo cut production by 2/3 this week going from 90 points last week to 30 this week. So did Shaun Alexander who went from 24 points down to 8. Ladainian Tomlinson and Philly QBS also had a TD. The loss spoils an opportunity to gain a game on J/K, who now remains four games ahead with four to play. A more realistic goal for R-Mo is second place, and with Deitrich and Cousins losing, nothing changes there. He's still a game ahead of Bud, two ahead of Cousins. |

Brown 59 McCowan 22After leading the West for so many weeks, McCowan has dropped to third, a game and a half behind co-leaders Jackson and Brad Moses. But here is an encouraging piece of information. The 411 points scored by McCowan has in targeted in a points qualifier spot. Among the teams that don't finiah first or second in the division, the two teams with the most points scored qualify for the playoffs. |

Best 50 Jones/Klingman 20JK's Peyton Manning tossed a TD pass on the first play from scrimmage Sunday, and you would have thought the that dynamic duo was at it again... However, it was the ONLY TD they scored all weekend. The loss denies JK a chance to be only the third team in league history to win 9 of the first 10 games. (The others were Best 9-1 in '94 and Deitrich 10-0 in '95). There is good news in that they become the first team to clinch a playoff berth. They are five games ahead of third place Deitich in the central with four games left to play. |

|
Jackson 42 Cousins 37None of these multi TD players qualify as "Splinter Squad". That distinction goes to Wesley Walls amd Kevin Dyson, left on Cousins' pine in the five point loss. Tiki Barber, Ten QBs and Curtis Conway scored and John Kasay kicked in 10. Cousin's lineup was default - same as last week due to him not submitting one. Good to get that test of the MyFL softwere as we move into the late season... |

Outlaw 41 Deitrich 21Deitrich truly is "Bud Light" this season and his now in danger of not making it to .500. His worst year was 1996 when he was 6-9 (5-8 in the regular season. This week, Denver QBs and Dominic Rhodes scored his only TDs. Fred Taylor was a late scratch. Maybe this week, Freddie will return... However, there is hope as he remains a game behind R-MO for second in the Central. |

Week 10 Preview |

Can we trust injury reports anymore? Coaches see to be using them to their advantage to throw off their opposition. Lots of guys listed as
questionable recently got nowhere near the field. Emmitt Smith, Edgerrin James, Tyrone Wheatley all listed as "questionable" never doffed
their warmups, if they even dressed at all. It is all a ruse to force the opposition into prepping for different situations. A few
years ago the NFL cracked down on a few teams for not listing players on their injury reports and the Broncos and Cowboys started listing
everyone with a hangnail.
Back in the early days of the BRFL, we had the USA today injury report and the pregame shows. That was it Now we have "NFL 2night", team web sites, injury emails, etc etc. You can find out who has practiced, who has not. Unless a guy pulls a hammy in the pregame warm ups, you can pretty much make the call as to whether or not a guy will play. And Edgerrin James is not "questionable", he is out for the year. I had another 5-1 week last week. Darn Ricker. He and Joe Nedney cost me a perfect week. I'm up to 32-21-1 for the season. Too many easy games to pick. Too much playing it safe...maybe I'll pick up a couple upsets. |
Ricker vs Brad Moses"Grandma" Moses.... I don't think so. You know how siblings are. One is always trying to out do the other. One ties the league points record, the other will make a run for it. B-Mo - this one's in the bag. |
Brown vs McCowanMcCowan woke up last Sunday a division leader: and went to bed in third place. First Rick Moses crushed him by 51 and then Jackson and Brad Moses both won their third staright and leaped over DMC in the West standings. For Brown, it's been the exact opposite. His divisional competition, Best and Ricker, fall all over themselves to get out of Brown's way. He has an interesting dilemma at running back where Marshall Faulk had 183 yards and two TDs by halftime and then sat out the second half as Trung Canidate mobbed up and had a huge game in his own right. What's the solution as a fantasy owner? Start both? McCowan hasn't getting much production from Lamar Smith - the only starting back available this week. Smith is hearing footsteps from Travis Minor, but unlike the Faulk/Canidate tandem of Brown, DMC does not own Minor. Who does? Brown and Minor could be a "major" factor in this game. |
Cantrell vs Rick MosesAs impressive as his 9-0 was this week here, Hank and the rest of R-Mo's TWFL mates are marvelling at another 9-0: His perfect 9 win, 0 losses record as he runs away with it over there. It would be interesting to see how R-Mos Twiffle squad will do against his BRFL squad in head to head competition this season. This week, looks like another solid week for R-Mo Philly should romp against Dallas and lets see what Duce Staley and Shaun Alexander can do for encores. |
Best vs Jones/KlingmanBest has only beaten rookies this year, so perhaps he is apprehensive about playing his second straight game against a team he first met back when Ronald Reagan was president and Michael Jackson was topping the charts. Also, since these two played in week 12 last season, JK has gone 11-3. and has scored 46 ppg. Best has yet to witness first hand the "new and improved" JK. Last week, JK put up 78 points, but was overshadowed by division rival R-Mo with 90. Curtis Martin will be on the road at Miami. Priest Holmes is on a bye. Indy goes down to New Orleans with Peyton Manning's Jaw aching from a slight fracture. It will be interesting to see how tentative he will be. Is JK vulnerable here? Is Best up to the task? The Vikings are realing from two straight blowout losses, but this is their first home game since week 6. Their opponent will be the Giants, the team that blew them out 41-0 in last years NFC championship. There are a lot of motivating factors, but can the Vikings be motived. Best will hedge his bets on both sides and will start his Giants as well. Everything is on the line Monday Night. Time to pick an upset. Best keeps the JK champagne chilling. |
Deitrich vs OutlawTwo perenial powers taking it on their chins this year. In looking for an "angle" on this game, I go back to late last season when Outlaw and Bud played in back to back weeks. The games ended in a 60-60 tie and a 73-29 Outlaw romp. Quick as a flash, Bud was out of the playoffs. What made Outlaw so potent after limping along all season? Fred Taylor. By that point Taylor had shaken the rust off a preseason injury and was putting up huge stats: 21 points in week 14 and 15 points in week 15. This week, we may see Taylor back and if we do, will he return to that kind of form? Deitrich hopes so, but the thought here is not yet... Outlaw has actually had two decent weeks scoring 109 points combined. Stephen Davis returns this week to join Ahman Green, and Kevan Barlow has potentional to do to the Panthers what Marshall Faulk and Trung Canidate did last week. James Thrash has also been red-hot of late and he plays the Cowboys. I see this game as a continuation of Outlaw recent successes vs Bud. |
Cousins vs JacksonCalvin Jackson has his 49'er combo playing at Carolina. The A-train plays the Bucs who have been giving up the yards on the ground. Calvin Cousin's Titans, a foot short of the goal line Monday night, play at Cincinnati. Not the patsy they once were. The Bus has a date with Jacksonville, who kept Corey Dillon in check last week. It's not going out on a limb to say that Calvin will win this game. Of course I mean Jackson. However, we won't have the JK/Hank or R-Mo/DMC style blowout we saw last week. This one will be a little closer than expected. Bet the spread on Calvin ... Cousins. |
