McCowan 31 Cantrell 30 A week after McCowan scored 73 points in handing Jones/Klingman his first loss, he looked like he was
dead in the water versus last place Cantrell. DMC had only 8 points going into the Monday night game. Sunday was a disaster for DMC:
He left The Giants QBs (18 points) and Tony Richardson (13 points) on the bench.
Cantrell's 27 points on Sunday was not too impressive. The bulk of his points, 12, came from kicker Olindo Mare. The Jets QBs had a score as the did the Bear Defense, an OT interception return for the second straight week. Down 27-8, McCowan's rally looked doubtful. Sebastian Janokowski scored 8 points as Oakland built a big lead. Denver was out of the game most of the evening. Rod Smith had a TD and a 2 pointer. The question was would there be another score in "garbage time", and if so, who would get it: Hank's Mike Anderson or DMC's Rod Smith. Just under two minutes to go, the TD went to Smith. However, Mike Anderson ran in the two point conversion. At that point, it came down to bonus points and Smith had a slight edge. McCowan pulled out a memorable one, 31-30. The win was key for McCowan as the entire West division won. At 5-2-1, he remains a half game head of Jackson and Moses who are 5-3. |

Brown 56 Cousins 39Nander's Sunday got him TDs from Marty Booker and Troy Brown. Down 15 going into Monday night, he needed a couple TDs from, Oakland, perhaps one to Tim Brown. He didn't have to wait long as Gannon and Brown hooked up early. Then near half time Gannon threw another. Gannon and Brown hooked up again in the second half as this cake was iced. Browns win was key as the rest of the East division lost. This was due to the East being heavily dependant on Vikings, Rams and Bengals, three teams that were on a bye this week. Brown has a game lead over Best and a two game lead over Ricker and Cantrell. |

Jones/Klingman 36 Ricker 34JK wasn't going to match the 52 he put up on Ricker in last years Super Bowl, but he did get TD's from Priest Holmes and Ike Hilliard. Joe Horn SHOULD have gotten him a TD on a goal line stretch (see B-Mo), but it was the Saints D following up that score with a safety that won this game. Orginially reported as a 34-34 tie, the safety went unnoticed until a myFL scoring glitch was discovered by Klingman. MyFl corrected the problem and JK lead 36-34. There was still the matter of Tyrone Wheatley. After Charlie Garner ripped off a couple runs, ABC's cameras caught a glimpse of Wheatley, in street clothes on the sideline. Although listed as questionable, Wheatley, like Edgerrin James and Emmitt Smith did not play. Because this was a Monday game, Ricker did not have the benefit of pre-game information to make a lineup change. The win was big for JK as it widened the gap between them and the rest of the division. R-Mo and Bud both lost. At 7-1 JK has a 4 game lead. |

Outlaw 66 Best 23Best pretty much "cleared his bench" to fill out a roster. The 23 points matched a season low, only scoring TDs from Miami's D and SR QB Seattle. A couple TDs were taken off the board from James McKnight and Amani Toomer. |

Brad Moses 38 Rick Moses 34The Saints started slowing in that game. A long pass to Joe Horn that should have been a TD, set up New Orleans on the one. Rick dodged a bullet there, but the next one got him. Ricky banged it in and little brother got a long overdue win. |

Jackson 50 Deitrich 42Bud's Sunday was nothing to get excited about. "Rent-a-back" Dominic Rhodes scored, but the bulk of Bud's point came from Denver QBs on Monday night. A couple of Denver drives stalled early, and Jason Elam kicked field goals. Then Denver started scoring on passing TD and going for two. That got Jackson slightly nervous as Elam was not used. Bud did make it close, but Jackson prevailed. |

Week 8 Preview |
|
Welcome to "Pick-on-the-East Week" This week should be interesting as we have a very potent trio of teams having byes; St Louis, Minnesota and Cincinnati. There is trouble for teams in the East as the four top players picked were 2 Rams and 2 Vikes. Additionally, Ricker and Best chose to feather their nest with more players from these teams: they'll will both have their top three draft picks off this week. Bye weeks do have an effect on scoring. The 18 week 1993 season, which featured as many as 8 teams off at various times was the BRFL lowest scoring year in history. Fortunately, the TV networks complained that the NFL was not providing enough good games and the double bye idea was scrapped. Next year will see a return to divisional byes when the NFL expands to 32 teams. The "Cleveland Schedule" that we have used to last three years has been favorable to scoring in the BRFL. This is where that in the middle part of the season, at the maximum three teams have been off. Scores in the BRFL have been higher the last couple years because more teams were at full strength. If you need further proof, look at what happened when the NFL scheduled five teams off in week four. The scores were 10 points lower than the season average. There should be a drop off this week, but maybe not as dramatic as the fantasy impact players are concentrated among the four East teams. I've become the "R-Mo" of prognosticators. After a great start, I've gone 2-4 the last three weeks. 22-19-1 for the season. |
Ricker vs Jones/KlingmanJK was bounced from the unbeatens last week by McCowan. They didn't have a bad game, they scored 56 points; however, McCowan had the horses to score a lot more. Ricker usually has this same potential to score in bunches, but not this week. St Louis is on a bye. Ricker will be very feeble this week, but he knew that. Too bad the game was against JK, the one team he would like to beat and beat bad. |
Brown vs Cousins |
Cantrell vs McCowanHank's problem has been finding a QB to score. He starts the Jets at New Orleans. DMC had the luxury of having his two QBs scores three TDs last week. He has a better matchup. McCowan should win easily. |
Best vs Outlaw |
Rick Moses vs Brad MosesThis should be the most entertaining game of the week. It's a very tough game to call. In looking at the starting lineups, something tells me these guys will be playing close attention to the pregame shows. It expect R-Mo to prevail: his little bro' is taking an awful gamble with his starters that may not pay off. |
Deitrich vs JacksonThings look good for Jackson as he should reap some points for his Niner QBs against the winless Lions. The Lions do not lie down easily, so they have been statistical bonanzas for the teams they face. Throw Terrell Owens in the mix and you have the makings of a rout fed by a couple combo TDs. Jackson also quietly aquired Anthony Thomas a couple weeks before the hype kicked in. The A-Train has rejuvenated Jackson's running attack. Calvin should win easily. |
