Lt. Commander Geordi LaForge Chief Engineer, USS Enterprise Geordi LaForge is a very unique individual. Blind from birth, Geordi was given a unique opportunity to see when he was fitted with a VISOR which allowed him to see, even better than a human but not in the same way. His VISOR allowed him to detect energy signatures and other phenomena. Ironically, Geordi served as the Enterprise's helsman when he first came aboard as a junior-grade Lieutenant. The following year, he was promoted to Chief Engineer. Geordi was well-liked on the Enterprise and had many friends; he was especially close to Data. Following his capture by Soran and allowing his VISOR to be used to against him, Geordi was fitted with occular implants which meant he would no longer need to wear a VISOR. On the B'aku planet, due to heavy concentrations of a regenerative radiation, Geordi's optic nerves regenerated and he was able to see with real human eyes. Unfortunately, it did not last and he returned to using his occular implants. images:
