Room 8 visit to Ferrymead
The
Room 8 children enjoyed a day at Ferrymead Heritage Park reliving Early
Canterbury. when we arrived we changed into clothes the children would have
worn a hundred years ago. the boys had to learn to let the girls walk through
doorways first.
We went to see an old-fashioned movie with no speaking. After that we went to
the bakery to learn about a wood oven and we baked some biscuits. He had to work
hard
at the policeman's cottage doing washing and cleaning. We feel sorry for the
children who lived a hundred years ago. After that we visited the school. The
teacher, Mrs Black, was very strict. The desks were uncomfortable but we did
like writing with the ink pen and blotting paper.
The tram ride after our picnic lunch was exciting.
We are pleased we did not live a hundred years ago. We think children have more fun today.
