Dear Parents,
I have returned to a mountain of work to catch up on after going on the Year 6 camp to Hanmer Springs. This was a wonderful time! It is a great ‘finale’ to the end of Primary School to have the Year 6’s going away together on camp. We left Christchurch in grey, drizzly weather. By our stop at Waikari the rain had stopped but it was still grey and cold. At Hanmer the weather had begun to lift and our spirits rose. God blessed us with great weather through the four days. The children and hardy volunteer parents all enjoyed a full week. The children walked … including an enthusiastic group who ‘sprinted’ up to the top of Mt Isobel … did rock climbing, soaked in the hot pools twice, orienteered, did bush craft activities and cooked on a home-made ‘hob’ stove … amongst other things. It was a wonderful week of fun and fellowship! Have a look at the photographs included later in the Update. Thanks to Mrs Richardson and Mr Brown for all your work. Also, to the parents: Mrs Smith (Jacob’s mum - wonderful in the kitchen!), Mrs Suddens, Mrs Jarrett, Mr Smith (Joel’s Dad), Mr Carrington, Mr Broughton, Mr Nuttall, Mr Martin, Mr Kwant - a great group of camp parents. To those parents who provided additional transport, a special thank you too. I came away from camp tired but inspired. It’s
a wonderful venue which refreshes the soul! But also, I was encouraged to see
how well the children got on with each other during the camp and the
encouragement and Moving on … in the last Update we had some great results from the University of New South Wales English competition - this time we acknowledge the children who did so well in the maths competition. We gained 28 credits and 8 distinctions, a great result. I hope you enjoy catching up on the Primary School news again. John Stackhouse, Head of Primary School
Athletics What a wonderful day. The weather was perfect! Mrs Kench worked hard to organise another fabulous athletics day. Our thanks to her and to all staff and parents who worked so hard to make the day such a successful one! Great results were achieved through the day. Results are recorded on the attached sheet. We hope you enjoy the photographs taken on the day too. Congratulations to all the children involved - great effort, attitude and behaviour! Thank you to those parents who came along to watch and also to have a relaxed picnic lunch! PS Guess what! The staff relay team won again! Well done Mr Brown, Mrs Lawn, Mr Pomare, Mrs Langford! (Better luck next year to parent and pupil teams.) Please see the Update sent home for the Althletic Day Results. University
