* * * nick harper, UK guitar player and singer / songwriter (and also son of roy harper), should be added to your list of people who play / played a frank zappa composition in concert every now and then. * * * okay, so maybe you already knew this, but why didn't you tell me any sooner: doo-wop dudes the gelcaps recorded 'later that night' (frank zappa) on their latest album. The album is called "take two (and call us in the morning). * * * and uncle sammy, whoever they may be, played zappa's 'stinkfoot' in concert 2000/10/21, somewhere in cambridge, ma, usa. haven't heard it yet, although a tape should be circulating. * * * the next album by fuselage, called "the fuselage archive cd", will capture their two out-of-print ep's from 1997, including some extras. one of these is frank zappa's 'hungry freaks'. * * * shadra2 also played a zappa track in concert (december 22, 2000): 'carolina hard core ecstasy'. * * * believe it or not, but the band called dog meat bbq say they made up the name a couple of hours before their first gig while reading a flyer about a world-wide campaign against the eating of dogs. No initial zappa-link whatsoever. Through the years, however, they have played a lot of songs by different artists, one being "trouble coming every day" by frank zappa. * * * in 1988, hawkwind performed a zappa song as well: 'city of tiny lites'. * * * and as long as we're on the subject: december 2000, moe. played a couple of concerts that included some zappa stuff as well. The 2000/12/01 gig in st.louis included 'san berdino', the 2000/12/02 one, in chicago, included 'apostrophe'. * * * more zappa material played in concert by quarkspace and by the big wu. The latter one hase done 'bobby brown'. * * * various artist compilation album "guess who's coming for seconds" has 'lonesome cowboy burt' as played by the people haters. Haven't heard it yet. It's on gbnar records. * * * berlin-based heavy metal band orth recorded and released zappa's 'bobby brown' on their latest album, called "feeding the flames". * * *
