Tatted John Jump Up

Visul Pattern
This is a Johnny Jump Up or Pansy flower. I designed this myself. It is done in Purple, Lilac, and Yellow DMC Pearl Cotton Size 5. It only takes one shuttle. It is a very simple design, don't let the directions scare you. I tried to make them understandable no matter what your notation preference! It would be lovely to take some green thread and chain a stem, and add a cluny leaf or two, I just haven't gotten around to it! Pattern:
The visual diagram to the left may help you, also it is my first attempt at using software to draw out a pattern! I used Trajectory Pro By Jasc
  • Dark Purple: R(3-2-2-2-2-2-2-2-3) Close, do not RW. -that should be 8 picots
  • Dark Purple: R(3+2-2-2-2-2-2-2-3) Close, cut & tie ends, leaving quite bit of thread.-that should be 8 picots
  • Lilac: R (4-2+{join to second picot of Purple ring}2-2-2-2-4) Cl R, RW.-that should be 6 picots and/or joins
  • Lilac: R 4-2+{join to second picot of Purple ring}2-2-2-2-4) Cl R, Cut & tie. -that should be 6 picots and/or joins
  • Yellow: R 4+2-2-2-2-2-2-2-2-2-2+4. Close, Cut & Tie. -that should be 11 picots and/or joins
  • The Dark Purple threads I tied together and trimmed them evenly so that they hung down into the yellow, like the purple striations on the yellow petal, which you will see if you look at a real Johnny Jump Up or Pansy.
  • At This point I Put the Lilac and Yellow threads to the back, where they can be trimmed (if you are gluing this to a notecard, they shouldn't show)

  • R = Ring
    - = picot
    + = Join
    RW = Reverse work
    Cl R= Close Ring
