There is wide
selection of hotels along ST Road between the bus stand and the
clock tower. However, all hotels only have hot water in the
morning.
Chetna Rest House
(+91 2876 20688), directly opposite the bus stand, with all of the
accompanying noise, has clean and simple singles/doubles for Rs.
65/130 with private bathroom with cold water and Rs. 55/110 with
bucket shower but shared squat toilet. Dorm beds for men are
only Rs. 35.
Hotel Satkar (+91
2876 20120) around the corner, has a phone and TV in most
rooms. Rates are from Rs. 100/150 for a cramped room, with
larger ones going for Rs. 200/300 or Rs. 400 with air
condition. All rooms have private bathroom. Staff are
obliging.
Toran Tourist
Bungalow (+91 2876 46588), not far from the lighthouse, is in a
rather inconvenient location but is quiet and better maintained than
most hotels run by Gujarat Tourism.
Ordinary/deluxe/air-conditioned singles cost Rs. 225/275/425; the
corresponding doubles are Rs. 350/450/650. The deluxe rooms
are very comfy with a balcony complete with swing chair and sunset
and ocean views. Checkout time is 9 am. The restaurant
serves Guajrati and Punjabi food. One downside is the smell
from the nearby chemical factory.
Hotel Utsav (+91
2876 22306), just up from the bus stand, has quite pleasant doubles
with satellite TV for Rs. 350/500 without/with air condition.
Places to Eat
Real Treats
advertises continental and Chinese food, but delivers only good
bottomless Gujarati thalis for Rs. 40. The air conditioned
dining area is pleasant.
Fast Food
Restaurant, near the clock tower on the road to the station, has
simple veg food for around Rs. 25.
Paradise
Restaurant, almost opposite the State Bank of India, does
surprisingly good, reasonably priced, Chinese food. It's a
friendly place and the won ton soup (Rs. 50) is very tasty.
There aren't many veg dishes to choose from.
