1999 BRFL Week 4 Results |
Where Have all the Backs Gone?
Terrell Davis, Jamal Anderson, Garrison Hearst, Barry Sanders. Four stud backs
from last year. This year for various reasons, none of the four are currently
playing. With the exception of Bud the Stud, who owns the three most productive
backs in the BRFL, the majority of BRFL owners are scrambling. Mo-ha has one back
on his roster following Davis' injury: Philadelphia's Duce Staley. Philadelphia
has scored since week 1. While waiting for the return of Garrison Hearst, Peil
starts either Greg Hill or Lamar Smith, both back-ups.
Denver's Derek Loville becomes a hot Tuesday commodity.
The re-awakening of the Cunningham-Moss combo have resulted in a pair of
formerly winless teams getting their victory this week. Peil and Min QBs
won the "Geritol
Bowl" by holding off CZ's Monday night trip of Christie, A Reed and the Miami D.
AB and Randy Moss defeated Jackson as Jackson's QB, Doug Flutie, faced a
harrassing Miami D. One drive was thwarted by a safety blitz resulting in a
sack of Flutie by none other than Calvin Jackson.

Best 43 Outlaw 23 |
OUT box score,
BST box score Trying to figure out why high powered Outlaw did so poorly: New England had a lay-up against Cleveland, but did not put on an offensive show from a scoring standpoint. Despite the high yardage totals, the QBs accounted for only one TD pass, and it was not to Ben Coates. Outlaw was further hampered by Jacksonvilles dual back attack of Fred Taylor and James Stewart, both of whom are on Outlaw's roster. Taylor is healing, and did get Jacksonville's and Outlaw's start. Stewart finished the game and got the bulk of the carries. Best started newly acquired Oakland QBs, but it didn't matter as both they and the Jets threw for two scores. The Jacksonville D scored two safeties, only one other time that happened was in Week 2 1996 when San Francisco's D recorded two for Wallace. |
Wallace 49 Stroupe 24 |
STP box score,
WAL box score Wallace is the master of special reserve: After 8 QBs had been either picked up or SR'ed this week, he still managed to find one that scored twice, Baltimore. However, despite having them in his original lineup, he switched to Tennessee at game time. He was rewarded with an extra bonus point, and a spectacular Eddie George reception that netted him a quick 13 points. Without Peyton Manning, Stroupe had no chance this week. Ricky Williams was expected to sit, but did play. Stroupe is still awaiting for the first points from Williams in 1999. |
Peil 37 Czupryna 25 |
DP box score,
CZ box score Peil wins the Geritol bowl for the third straight year, with a little help from Czupryna. CZ decided to play favorites this week, Peil's not his. He started the Kansas City QBs and benched New England's Terry Glenn; The receiver from CZ's favorite team. Glenn scored 10 points. Those points coupled with 18 from San Francisco, CZ's usual starter, rather than KC's 12 would have given CZ the win. |
Deitrich 60 Jones-Klingman 23 |
JK box score,
BUD box score For five seasons, the series between Jones/Klingman and Deitrich has been rather quiet with little at stake. Then came the great quarterback controversy where Bud special reserved 4 QBs the week JK's QB was off. Jones had plenty to say on the forum, but Klingman probably summed it up best: "He spent four dollars to avoid losing to US?" For Bud, it was one of those weeks he's had twice before in his career when he notched over 80 points. However, he sat Tim Biakabutuka and 21 points, so he settled for 60. There was one point in the weekend where he had to be worried. The Redskins were down 21-0 courtesy of three scores all by the benched Biakabutuka. However the game, known as the "Bud Bowl", turned at this point and yielded 45 points for Bud's starting Redskins. |
Barry 39 Jackson 28 |
AB box score,
CJ box score Randy Moss finally had his breakout week - against his old owner, Jackson. For Barry, he was just glad to be out of the month of September. He is 3-15-1 in games played during that month. Jackson has fallen flat outside the division, 0-2. In divisional year, this has been a problem for him in the past. His point production has fallen steadily after scoring 40 in week 1. He has gine from 40 - 35- 31 and now 28. Is a radical roster shake-up pending? |
Mosakowski-Hale 59 Talbot 18 |
MOS box score,
TAL box score The league has mixed emotions regarding the loss of Terrell Davis. Davis is one of the more popular players in the league and the dominant back of the late 90s. He is the only non-QB to twice be a number one pick. His injury is a sad event. On the other hand, Davis was on Mo-ha's team! Looking at Talbot's output this year, he has scored more teens than Ricky Martin. Not even an game against Mo-ha, where he played three epic contests last year can shake his funk. Perhaps vultures like CJ or even the Mo-ha are circling Talbot's decaying carcus looking for a deal... |

Week 4 PreviewMosakowski-Hale (1-2) vs Talbot (0-3)Call it the "did you guys used to be good Bowl". There is much ado in the NFL about last years final four teams being a combined 1-11 so far this season. Not all of our final four teams for last years are in such dire straits, but these two are.Last year Talbot scored 60, 64 and 43 points in three losses to MOS. This year he has scored a combined 43 in three losses period. What? Is he saving it up for Mos? I don't think so. Arizona is a flop, and things will not get better at Dallas. So whay am I picking Mo-ha to win despite their ineptitude, despite their blowing last years winning of this years transactions, they do have a team that can score. This week, they can be as brain dead as they were last week in benching 50 and still beat Talbot. Jones-Klingman (3-0) vs Deitrich (2-1)Bud...this game isn't worth losing any sleep over. So what's with the midnight SRs? JK doesn't have Favre. They are finished. You have got WAS QBs at home against the Panthers. Your Corey Dillon got 113 years against the Panthers. So, what's Stephen Davis going to do? And another question.. How come you were the only one that figured out that Terrell Davis changed his name to Stephen and moved to Washington? Bud in a walk.Peil (0-2-1) vs Czupryna (1-2)The Geritol Bowl. CZ takes the field with Jeff or is it Jerry Garcia QB'ing the 49'ers. Who know, the Grateful Dead...Jerry Garcia. San Francisco? Never mind CZ, I guess you stopped listening to music when Elvis showed up on the Ed Sullivan show. And speaking of Elvis, CZ has picked up KC QBs. Does he really think they are that good, or did he do it to dog Peil?Quick, name somebody on Peil's team other than Min's QB? uh, Tim Brown? Yes, correct. Peil's had him on his roster since the Bush administration and probably will in the next Bush administration. However, brown has a big game and disappears. See you in week 10, TB. CZ will win in an ugly CZ stype 22-15 kind of game. Barry (0-2-1) vs Jackson (2-1)AB didn't drop anyone this week, so I can't tell you who will have a big game. We are still waiting on Jacksonville QBs to break out, so maybe this is the week. They play PIT.CJ on the other hand dropped Pittsburgh like a rock after two bad games. He held onto them a lot longer last year. Jackson has not impressed and will not this week with Flutie in Miami. Calvin has also beaten AB four straight times and has done so scoring 39, 41, 42 and 41 points. I don't think Jackson can score 40 this week. My upset Special this week: AB Outlaw (2-1) vs Best (2-1)The "Retail Bowl" as two North Raleighites square off. But Best is in Argentina and Outlaw is in Spain or has been. Perhaps call it the "Jet Lag" bowl. And speaking of "Jet Lag" Best may have finally given up on them as a QB team with the pick up of Oakland. They play at Seattle. Speaking of Seattle, this is where Outlaw was last year when these two played. He forgot that the Seahawks were on a bye and reverted to his default line up. This week his QB, New England is a on bye. They play at Cleveland. The difference between a real bye and a Cleveland bye is that BRFL statistics are generated in a Cleveland bye and lots of them. Best will probably wish he stayed in Argentina and watched Soccer on Sunday Afternoon. This will get ugly: Outlaw big Wallace (3-0) vs Stroupe (1-2)This was supposed to be where Marvin Harrison met Peyton Manning in a showdown. However, both are on byes. Stroupe got squeezed out by the SR QB shuffle and has to start Philadelphia. The Eagles have thrown one TD pass all year. So he goes from the BRFL's leading QB to this...Wallace has never started 4-0 in a season, but he has twice started 4-0-1 in 91 and 95. This will be is best start ever... Wallace. |
