11 of 12 Still in the Hunt
with One Week Left
This league is so screwed up, bear with me in figuring it out. Eleven of
12 teams are still in the hunt. 7 teams can still win divisions. First some
corrections:
Yesterday, we had reported here that Wallace was defeated by Talbot.
Today it was reported that JK defeated AB. I guess
that puts this website along side such great headline
mistakes as "Dewey Defeats Truman"
or "UNC Fires Torbush". Talbot, as it turns out, did not start JJ Stokes.
Wallace instead had to sweat out a Monday night game that featured Talbot's
Robert Smith getting to the goal line and not in, just like Frank Sanders
did on Sunday. Ironically both players missed their first TD of the season by
inches, and as a result Talbot misses beating Wallace by inches.

A similar tale can be told of JK,

who saw Mike Alstott have a couple
cracks at the goal line without success. AB was able to hold off JK and Alstott
and win. JK falls to last in the division but only one game behind division lead.
OUT box score -
BUD box score
Bud kept pace with Wallace by defeating sinking Outlaw 40-35. Outlaw still has
good hold on a points slot despite playing terribly.

The West is the model of decorum with Jackson and Best winning all the games
they should win. Jackson has defeated Stroupe 46-22.
CZ box score -
BST box score
Best has defeated CZ
50-26. The West will be settled
next week with the winner of Jackson vs Best. Cz and Stroupe have been rolling
over for the top two, but are they dead? Read on....
The Leader of the East is Peil ...Peil!!?
MOS box score -
DP box score
That's right Peil.
Peil upset the Mo-ha this week, and he climbs to first based on a
better division record then them (They split during the regular season).
One game separates the entire division. Three teams can win it next week.
- Peil: The Al Davis manta: Just win, baby. Win and he's division Champ.
- Mo-ha: Defeats Barry and Peil loses to JK
- Barry: Defeats Mo-ha and Peil loses to JK.
- JK: Cannot win the divison. Can get second with a win and a Mo-ha win.
Ironic. JK has to root for Mo-ha to win. That would potentially set up a
JK/Mo-ha game in week 15 depending on Outlaw's result.
Don't rule out CZ and Stroupe
The strange beneficiaries of all this East Division wackiness
are Czupryna and Stroupe. They both are getting pounded by the heads of
their division and yet they are very much in the hunt for a points slot.
CZ currently holds that slot. Go figure,
He loses three straight, and now he is in the playoffs. The situation was that
the two highest scoring teams in the East currently have a playoff spots. JK
and AB are far back in the points race. If form holds in the East in week 14,
Czupryna and Stroupe can be playing for a points slot. CZ currently has
the edge by 4 points. So he could potentially lose again and still get in!

Week 13: Things Still Tight
With Two Left to Play
Perhaps as many as five teams have their post season tickets: Wallace, Deitrich,
Jackson, Best and Mosakowski-Hale. Wallace, Best and Jackson have clinched
division slots. Deitrich and Mo-ha, should they fail to get a division slot
would be likely be points qualifiers. All three division titles are still up for
grabs.
I had the East and the West called correctly last week, but the darn Central
tripped me up. The 4-2 brings my picks total to 41-29-2. Still at the .583 clip.
Mosakowski-Hale (-13) vs Peil
An upset here would help Peil achieve a division playoff slot. However, Peil's
entire offense is dependant on Jeff George. The Vikes face Tampa's tough
defense Monday night. The Mo-ha have their QB, St Louise, facing the weak D
of Carolina. This could be a clinching moment for the Mo-ha.
Jones-Klingman (pick) vs Barry
AB's plan to make playoffs begins tonight with a big game from Jacksonville.
From there, he can probably sleep through the weekend until Randy Moss takes
the field Monday night. JK has Favre going to Chicago, where the Bears, due
to Jim Miller's suspension, won't be able to hang with the Packers. It should
be a fairly low scoring, windy December day in Chicago. I like AB to
keep things interesting, at least for second place, in the East.
Outlaw (+7) vs Deitrich
Bud has not been getting the usual boost from his QBs in recent weeks.
Washington has looked a little ordinary. They face the Lions in Detroit. These
teams do not play that often, but Washingtom has won 18 straight. It probably ends
here and in the process, making the NFC East look like the BRFL East. Not
good news for Bud. However, Outlaw fares no better, as New England faces
Dallas at home. It is a desparate situation for the Pats, but I don't expect them
to get it done either. It is probably more of an Emmitt type game, and that is
why I give the edge to Bud
Talbot (+18.5) vs Wallace
Talbot has been surprising the hell out of his Central division mates lately.
Not because he's scoring a whole bunch; he's improved his scoring slightly and
the other three teams have started scoring less. However, is that enough to
overcome the 56 point "who's your Daddy" whipping that Wallace gave him in week 2?
Probably not, but he should throw a scare into Wally if Philly/ARZ turns into
a shootout and if Tennessee has trouble scoring at Baltimore. Wallace,
but frighteningly close.
Czupryna (+5) vs Best
When Keyshawn Johnson was talking about not wanting to be around a "bunch of
losers", he wasn't returning to Best's fantasy team. If he had, expect a football
to the nose courtesy of Cris Carter. Carter has been on fire, and before what
were merely "servicable" QBs, Oakland and Carolina, have turned into heavy point
producers. Best has been on a 50 plus binge of late - a far cry from
the snowman he put up against CZ in week 2. However, don't count the old man
out. Seattle is antsy to put up some points and Marshall Faulk is
poised to run all over the Panthers. An interesting fact about this series,
they have never split their games in a season: 88, 92, 96 and 98 one team has
won all of the games, twice or thrice. CZ won in week 2...odds are
he pulls off the upset of the week in week 13.
Jackson (-7) vs Stroupe
Cincinnati gets the latest ride on Jackson's QB carousel. The "whomever is playing
San Francisco" theory is in effect here. The Bungles usually get hot late in
the season - when there is nothing to play for. Stroupe has the best dressed
team in the BRFL. Every week someone is in his lineup that is in
street clothes on Sunday. However, they may have fancy threads, but no
fancy shoes. Lots of
turf toes. Manning may have trouble against tough Miami D. Jackson
should clinch it this week.
