Wins in a Landslide
Who needs Terrell Davis when you have Kurt Warner and Issac Bruce: The St Louis
pass and catch combo combined for 56 points as the Mo-ha put up a career-high
77 in their game against Stroupe.
For the last two weeks we've been a little hard on the Mo-ha. One week we
are ridiculing him for his line up choices. The next week we are sticking forks in
him after Terrell Davis goes down. And then boom, they score 77 points, 136 in
two weeks. Whispers over the VP Buddy lines...back to back championships?

Mosakowski-Hale 77 Stroupe 32MOS box score - STP box score |
Under the current playoff plan, being last in his division, two games behind the leaders is not a bad fate for Stroupe as long as he keeps scoring. Peyton Manning alone could guarantee a playoff spot for Stroupe as a points qualifer. 32 points didn't win his game, but this like of steady, Stroupe-like scoring can probably get earn him a slot considering all he has to do is outscore Barry, Peil and Talbot. The Mo-ha have now overtaken Wallace as the scoring leader. Get this, they are also ahead of last years average, at a nearly Wilt Chamberlain-like 50 points a game. |
Jones Klingman 42 Best 28 BST box score - JK box score |
Klingman's bubble burst in Greenville last weekend as Southern Miss handed Klingman's beloved Pirates their first loss of the season. Sparing us, thankfully, a lot of ridiculous chatter about ECU playing a BCS bowl. By Sunday night, Klingman was out of his funk and was watching the pride of USM, Brett Favre, celebrating his 30th birthday by throwing two TDs. The heroics came late in the Tampa/Green Bay game, and Best was still at arm's length at the two minute warning until Alstott broke loose and Favre tossed his last TD. Best's loss to JK was only the second since week 4, 1991. An interesting play occurred in this game that might have had some interesting implications had not Alstott and Favre scored in the last two minutes. Corey Bradford, GB Receiver SR'ed by Best this week, caught a pass on the one, fumbled into the endzone and then recovered for a TD, a fumble recovery TD rather than a reception from JK's QB. However, the officials then ruled that he fumbled into the pylon, meaning that the recovery resulted in a touchback. |
Wallace 33 Peil 33WAL box score - DP box score |
This week we discovered that Carl Pickins is still in the league. I thought maybe he, Peil and other retirees were out walking the mall. Maybe he was playing his way into shape. The tie is Peil's ninth of all time, a league record. Wallace has the second most with eight. These two have tied before in week 2, 1995. The tie denied Wallace his chance for his first ever 5-0 start. Instead the 4-0-1 start matches his records in both 1991 and 1995 as his best start ever. While still at the top, Wallace isn't feeling secure. He feels his fortunes have dived like Michael Irvin's head on the Veteran's stadium turf. |
Jackson 41 Deitrich 32CJ box score - BUD box score |
Jackson must have felt lucky this week. His Redskins are on a bye and he's played Redskin heavy Bud. There was a little more than luck has for the first time this year, Jackson managed to out score his previous weeks total. He also regains the lead in the West division with Best's loss and virtue of having a better divsion record than Best. This is probably the week Bud might have slipped away to his little Myrtle Beach retreat that you can read about on his Web site. Not that he has any vacation yet from Cisco, but maybe they get Columbus day off. A nice three day weekend, maybe play a little golf, don't worry about the Redskins, or the Panthers. Judging by recent activity on the forum, he seemed a little tense and I hope he did take off. In his absence, his team carried on. Denver went back to Griese when Bubby tore someting in his rib cage. Emmitt scored, and Darnay Scott and Corey Dillon ran all over the field, but not in the end zone. One advantage to having such a heavy bye,is that it is over in one week and you can resume playing at full strength. With Wallace suddenly looking less than invincible, perhaps Bud take over the Central. |
Outlaw 24 Czupryna 22OUT box score CZ box score |
It didn't take much for Outlaw to beat the Old Man this week. Outlaw is in a
semi-slump. New England has resumed their old pattern of coming out hot the first
three weeks and then settling down. The unsettled Jax RB situation isn't helping
matters and for the second week in a row, Outlaw has guessed the wrong back.
Steve Young was out another week due to his concussion and is likely to continue to be out. The entire team must be groggy as well: CZ has scored in the 20s in four out of five weeks this year. Lawrence Phillips did score a TD to land him on the splinter squad. |
Barry 19 Talbot 6AB box score - TAL box score |
AB took it easy on Talbot. He started two running backs in street clothes and only
scored only 19 points this week. True to form, AB cuts a player and the player scores.
Warrick Dunn was cut last week, he scores this week.
Can it get any worse for Talbot? Six lousy points! Talbot changed out the unproductive Arizona QBs for the Giants. It cost him 12 points, but not the game. It was Talbots worst game since scoring 5 points against Wallace in 1995. It was his third worst game ever, the worst being the imfamous goose egg he laid in 1991. |

Week 5 Preview |
Battle in "Other" Divisions
It appears that the Central Division has the power teams this year with Wallace,
Deitrich and Outlaw. Overlooked are the leaders in the East and West,
Jones/Klingman and Best. Both have 3-1 records and meet each other this week.
Neither team impressed at the draft and neither team has put up stunning scores
so far this year. In fact both stood out for non-production:
JK won a game with a "16", the lowest winning total in five years. Best
carded a snowman in week 2, the lowest score in two years. Somebody has to win
those two divisions, and right now, JK and Best are the leaders.
Another 4-2 week to put me at 15-6-1. Am I getting better or is there no
parity in the BRFL this year. It's easy to keep riding Wallace and downgrading
Talbot. Will status quo continue? Is there a fork sticking in the Mo-ha?
Why is Jackson smiling?

Mosakowski-Hale vs StroupeTerry Kirby replaces Terrell Davis in Mo-ha's line up. That's like replacing Mark McGwire with Raphael Belliard. Ok, so I'm typing this up as I watch watching baseball. I could switch to "Frasier" and say something "like replacing *insert name of exquisite French Wine here* with MD-2020." While the Davis injury is the most disappointing story in Fantasy Football this year, the most surprising is Kurt Warner, QB of St Louis. This week, however, they face a real team in San Francisco, but they should be able to throw on them. Maybe even get into a shootout.Maybe this is the week Ricky gets out of the tub and into the end zone. Manning is back after a weeks rest. However, news is not so good involving Kareem Abdul Jabbar. Word is he may be in street clothes, inactive, demoted in favor of Cecil Collins. Stroupe did pick up St Louis TD specialist Robert Holcombe. Hoping for some endzone interference, I guess. This is a sympathy vote: Terrell had his breakout season under me. I'm going with the Mo-ha to win. Jones-Klingman vs BestIt's "thumbs-up" for JK this weekend. They should win "hands down". The rested Brett Favre, should have his thumb healed, and without Warren Sapp (out with a broken hand) to chase him he should have a productive day indeed. Aside from Favre, the fantasy hype machine is promoting Miami back, Cecil Collins. Collins should have room to run against Indianapolis.Best's new QB Oakland has a home date against Denver. Normally, this bodes ill, but considering Denver strange fortunes this year, this may make for a productive afternoon. However, but Best is down two starters due to bye and injury. Edge to JK in a high scoring affair. Peil vs WallaceBefore you label this a mismatch, you should known that Wallace has not defeated Peil in the regular season since 1993. Peil, strangely enough, seems to have Wally's number. Sometimes I'll pick a game on the side of history... not this time. Wallace should win easily.Barry vs TalbotThe train has left the station, but Talbot isn't on it. His 0-4 start is the worst in league history. The mere 61 points he has scored are the fewest by an 0-4 team ever. Only one team comes to mind with a similar poor start. In 1995, Jackson started 0-4 and had only scored 76 points total. However, in week 5, he exploded for 67 points. The victim? Talbot. So does history dictate that Talbot will rise up and win this week. Maybe, but it would be foolish to pick him. AB to win again. He was my "upset special" last week, this week will be no upset.Outlaw vs CzuprynaLast week, CZ played KC to get Peil to root against his favorite team and it backfired. This week, he gets it back at him as he faces his fave New England and Outlaw. Terry Glenn may come up big. CZ will need to start him...unlike last week. After a quick start with New England QBs, I wonder if they are falling into the same trap they did in 1997 when they scored 12 TDS the first three weeks of the season and then got real quiet. If so that could spell long term trouble for Outlaw, but this week there will be no trouble with CZ. Outlaw Deitrich vs JacksonThe off week hits Bud hard. To the bench goes WAS QB, Stephen Davis, Albert Connell and Tim Biakabutuka. Off the bench comes Denver QBs, playing their first game without Terrell Davis and with Bubby at the helm. Why didn't Bud stay up late this week and SR a list of QBs? He might actually need them. For Jackson, a gift. One of the league's most powerful teams is severely weakened and Jackson does not have to face his favorite team's QB. Buffalo faces Pittsburgh this week. It looks like a "W" but a low scoring "W", as inept as the Steelers were in the last two games, they have only allowed 1 offensive TD. This will be a "mild" upset since BUD is so depleted. I like Jackson to squeak by Bubby and Bud. |
