Meditation is like clearing out your RAM before starting a disk de-fragmentation program; it is meant to clear out everything that is not needed so your body, mind, and energy to one main task. So basically, just relax and focus. NOTE: these are just guidlines. You can diviate from them if you like. |
1) get into a place free of distractions. It could be inside, or outside, just as long as it's distraction free. Shut off the TV, computer, radio; anything that could take your mind away from your task should be removed. Shut the door if you have to (if you're inside). 2) get comfortable. You're going to be in the same position for a while, and being uncomfortable will only distract you. The position you're in isn't particularly important, but may vary depending on what you're trying to achieve. Try to get your back as straight as you can comfortably. 3) Close your eyes and clear your mind completely. Think of nothing. However, don't think about thinking about nothing, because that will only remind you of what you don't want to think about (reverse psychology). Instead, think only of your breathing and posture. Take deep breaths. Relax your whole body. Once you're relaxed, focus only on your goal. If your goal is to relax, think of a peaceful place, perhaps a garden or a forest or a mountain; where ever you're most relaxed. See below for other goals. |

Goals of meditation: |
Your goal for meditation can be anything. Here are some ideas and practical applications: 1) energy: if you want to raise your energy through meditation, this is how: first of all, understand that the energy in your body is supplied through breathing and metabolism. It is also lost by breathing and metabolism. The amount of energy you gain through these processes is fairly constant, but the amount you lose can vary. To optimize your energy usage, focus on lowering your heart rate. Then focus on deep, slow breaths. Don't move, it wastes energy. Don't use your senses, that also wastes energy. Don't even think about anything unrelated to your goal. That not only wastes energy but also breaks your conentration. Now for the fourfold breath: grasp your right ankle with your left hand, and your left ankle with your right hand. Now when you breathe in (through your nose), picture the energy entering your nasal cavity. breathe in for 4 seconds. Hold it for 2 seconds and picture the energy lingering there. Now when you breathe out, picture the energy going done your throat and splitting in two, each half going to an arm, and then flowing down your arms into your legs and then meeting in your dan tien. ... ... ... |
