Weeks LMP (17 Weeks Gestational) June 18 - June
24
Baby Length: about 15cm head to toe Baby Weight: 8oz Mother's Weight: 157 This was a pretty quiet week baby-wise. I do think that the baby moved from deep in my pelvis to around my stomach, since everytime I eat now, I get indigestion and bile-ish belches. Especially if I eat reclining on the couch, which I used to enjoy. I did find out that the Woman's Hospital across the street has pregnancy exercise classes, however. It would be nice to go and meet a bunch of pregnant woman. Not that non-pregnant woman are no fun, of course. It just would be nice to not be the biggest woman around. I'm looking forward to it since, despite what Joe might think, I really do miss being more active. And with the weather the way it is, walking outside just isn't an option. I have to get a signed form from my doctor, declaring it safe for me to exercise before I start the class. Unfortunately, I have been unable to contact any live person in the office. I'm giving them the benefit of the doubt, since they have such limited resources because of the flood, but this is seemingly becoming the norm for them. I called three times about my sciatica and never was able to speak to anyone about it until I went in for my normal visit. And I really want to start this class on Tuesday, but none of my calls concerning the form have been returned. I might just have to drop by the office, although I'd hate to waste my time any more than necessary. For a couple of weeks now, I've been able to feel the baby move, and occassionaly hear it kick the stethoscope. But Thursday, during a seminar, I was leaning back with my hand on my belly, and I could feel him kick my hand. He kicked 7 or 8 times over a 5 minute time period. It made me giggle, which has been my typical reaction to any milestone in the baby's development. Saturday I went to the Harris County Library and found quite a nice selection of pregnancy books. I got Joe She's Having a Baby -- I'm having a Breakdown, which he seemed to enjoy quite a bit. He read most of it outloud, I think. I also managed to get a ticket for having an expired inspection sticker on my car. When does the getting-away-with-everything-because-I'm-pregnant thing kick in? Sunday we got up early and visited the Houston Zoo. It was quite pleasant, not very crowded and for the most part it wasn't too hot. The koala baby is almost as big as her mother now; the screamers are still sitting on their nest, despite the encrouching grackels; and the Quakers should be back in the children's zoo soon. Apparently some of the quakers had gotten poisoned by chewing on the zinc solder in the enclosure, so they were removed to remedy to situation. The lake they just finished building next to the zoo in Hermann Park is rather nice, with lots of secluded areas for the wildlife, a fishing pier and a place to paddle boat as well. Definately a nice place to bring a kid.
