Beth practices her cell cultureThis was a particularly exciting visit to the doctor, as it was the first time we were able to detect a heartbeat, which we saw by ultrasound.  With the knowledge that our baby made it to this milestone, we felt comfortable letting the cat out of the bag.  Based on my sketchy memory and the size of the baby, the due date was estimated to be November 8th.

The relief I had felt at this point was quite immense.  I felt certain that since I hadn't had any morning sickness, that I was not having a proper repsonse to the surge of hormones that should have been produced.  I had been carefully watching my symptoms for signs of abatement, panicking at every twinge in my belly, and reading everything I could about miscarriages and other things that could go wrong.  All this because I wasn't yakking.  I was incredibly nervous waiting for this sonogram, and I was so full of joy to see that little blob squirming.

Of course, right on cue, the next few days I felt my appetite do weird things and my stomach would do twists.  Now that I was assured that the pregnancy was on the path to success, now I get nausea.

Since finding out I am pregnant, I have been attempting to eat better.  I've even started putting wheat germ in just about everything.  I don't quite get why every book I read raves about it, as I find it lends a bitter, almost walnutish taste to everything.  But because of my diet I've actually lost a few pounds, something I don't think I'll see again for quite some time.
