Before the meeting
- Familiarize yourself with the timing device. Ask for help if necessary.
- Get a list of specified time limits. Speeches will vary, but unless otherwise specified, Table Topics should be timed at 1-2 minutes and evaluations should be timed at 2-3 minutes. All speakers have a 30 second allowance at the beginning and end of their allotted time to conclude their speeches, with the exception of Table Topics speakers, who must speak for at least one minute.
During the meeting
- When called on by the Toastmaster, rise and explain the importance of learning to speak within time limits. Briefly, explain the use of the timing device.
- Time each speech, table topic speech, and evaluation. Record the times and the extent to which any speaker went under or over the time limit.
- When called on for timer's reports rise and give a brief report of the time of each speech, table topic speech, or evaluation and the extent to which each speaker went over or under the time limit.
After the meeting
- Turn in the timer's report form to the club secretary.
