Central Georgia: Dauset Trails ![]()
Terrain: Mostly hardpack dirt with a few roots thrown in for fun. Beginner and Intermediate loops are well marked. Course is fairly short with varying terrain. Skill To Get There: Take I-75 to Georgia exit 198 and head east about 5 miles towards Jackson. Trailhead is on the north side of the road. Nearby camping includes High Falls State Park and Indian Springs State Park, both of which accommodate all types of camping: tents, pop-ups, small and large RVs with hookups. Campers at Indian Springs will surely feel like they're on the frontier as they take advantage of the park's swimming and free miniature golf facilities! Visit www.gastateparks.org for more camping information. For North Floridians these trails are closer than South Florida trails, and that is why I have included them. Dauset makes a great day trip or camping trip, and the fun trails are different from typical Florida fare. The well marked loops include maps at intersections so you can plan your route. There are only a few miles of beginner trails, but that is okay because many beginners tend to ride shorter distances. Beginner and intermediate loops travel through a variety of terrain, including a flat forest basin and hills. As a bonus for more skilled riders, there are many opportunities for jumping. Cellular phone service is very spotty and be sure to watch out for ticks and chiggers. Lastly, the trails are closed occasionally after hard rains to avoid damaging the trails. |
