Ft. Pierce Bike Trail Terrain: About five miles of singletrack along a creek conservation easement. Intermediate skill for most areas, advanced skill for a few obstacles. Only five miles of trail. Skill To Get There: Trails lie between the Turnpike and I-95 on Okeechobee Road at the St. Lucie county exit (SR 70). From I-95 head west on SR 70; from the Turnpike head east on SR 70, but not too far (see pictures below). Turn south onto Crossroads parkway, which is an unmarked road and follow the dirt road to a parking area at its terminus. The picture below is facing west and the bridge in the background is the turnpike. The trail entrance is just after the Holiday Inn.
This is the trail entrance from the road: This is an interesting place to ride. There are technical sections such as elevated log bridges and see saws. If you are unsure of your skill, it is always possible to ride around obstacles. It is difficult to go fast here due to the tight and twisty nature of the trails. The trails have a good "flow" and are somewhat marked, but it is possible to get a little lost. However, you really cannot get lost since you're never more than a mile or two from civilization. The best season to ride is Spring, when there are few bugs and cool weather. Otherwise the trails may be overgrown, muddy and very humid. This just adds to the challenge, especially when wet! If you're in the area, it's definitely worth a look-see. Too bad there are only about five miles of trails. A couple of laps are in order. Slippery when wet:
There are no facilities of any kind,
therefore be completely self sufficient if you go. Fortunately you
are not far from civilization. Up to date information and pictures here:
