This Indenture made this 27th day July one Thousand eight hundred and one between Matthew Pate of the County of Bedford and State of Virginia of the one part and John Bratcher of the County & State aforesaid of the other part Witnesseth that the said Matthew Pate for and in Consideration of the Sum of one hundred pounds present Money of Virginia to him in hand paid by the said John Bratcher the receipt Whereof the said Matthew Pate doth hereby acknowledge hath bargained and Sold and by these presents doth bargain Sell deliver and confirm unto him the Said John Bratcher his him and assigns forever one certain tract or parcel of Land lying and being in the County of Bedford on the south side of Stanton River Containing four hundred and thirty two acres by patent bearing date the thirtieth day of April one Thousand Seven hundred and ninety eight and boundaries followeth to witt, Beginning at Bratcher's Corner Popler on the river thence down the river as it meanders to a crooked White Oak by a clift of Rocks thence a new line N 36 W 56 poles to a red oak N 7 W 48 poles to pointer in Brewers line thence along his lines N 75 W 38 poles to a pine N 28 W 111 poles to a White oak in Cawleys line thence along his line S 35 W 36 Poles to a Pine S 52 W 65 poles to a pine N 57 W 60 poles to a pine N 33 W 66 poles to a pine S 83 W 36 poles to a red oak S 3 E along Woods and Richardsons line 156 poles to a White Oak S 15 W 58 poles to a White Oak on the river aforesaid and thence along the river as it Meanders to Bratcher corner pine thence along his lines N 116 poles to a Small Hickory East 174 poles to a pine S 50 E 64 poles to a red oak S 5 W 60 poles to the Beginning To have and to hold the said Land and premises with the appurtenances thereunto belonging unto the Said John Bratcher his heirs and assigns forever and he the said Matthew Pate do hereby Covenant With the said John Bratcher the he will forever Warrant and Defend the said Land and premises with all its appurtenances unto the said John Bratcher his heirs and assigns forever against the Claim of all men and manner of persons Whatsoever In Witness Whereof the Said Matthew Pate hath hereunto set his hand and Seal the day and year first above Written
