This Indenture made this twenty seventh day of May One Thousand Eight Hundred and three Between John Bratcher and Jane Bratcher his wife of Bedford County of the one part and Robert Hardy of said County of the other part in Witness that the said John and Jane Bratcher for and in consideration of the sum of Seven Hundred pounds to them in hand paid the Receipt whereof they doth hereby acknowledge hat granted bargained and sold and by the presents doth grant bargain and sell unto the said Robert Hardy five Hundred and Eighty two acres of Land in Bedford County on Stanton River be the same more or less and bounded as follows to wit Beginning at a Poplar on the River thence down the River as it meanders to a crooked white oak by a Cliff of Rocks thence North 36 W 56 poles to a Red Oak N 40 W 8 poles to a pointer in Brown lines thence along his lines N 73 W 38 poles to a pine N 28 W 111 poles to White Oaks in Cawleys line thence along his line S 25 W 14 poles to a Spanish Oak N 83 W 34 poles to a small white Oak S 35 W 36 poles to a Pine N 51 W 60 poles to a Pines N 33 W 65 poles to a pine S 83 W 36 poles to a red Oak S 3 E along Woods and Richardsons line 156 poles to a white Oak S 15 W 58 poles to a white Oak on the River thence down the River as it meanders to the Beginning To have and to hold the said granted Land in promises with the Reversion and Reversions Remainder and Remainders and every part and parcel thereoff unto him the said Robert Hardy his Heirs and assigns forever and … the said John and Jane Bratcher doth Covenant grant and agree to and with Robert Hardy his Heirs and Assigns that they the said John and Jane Bratcher shall and will warrant and forever defend the above granted Land and premises from them the said John and Jane Bratcher their Heirs and Assigns and from all and every person or persons claim or claims unto the said Robert Hardy and to his Heirs and Assigns forever In Witness whereof we the said John and Jane Bratcher have hereunto set our Hands and affixed our Seals the day and year above written.

At a Court held for Bedford County at the Courthouse the 26th day of Sept. 1803. This Indenture of Bargain & Sale between John Bratcher & Jane Bratcher wife of the one part & Robert Hardy of the other was proved by the Oaths of John Jeter & Joseph Hardy the subscribing Witnesses and at a Court held for the said County at the Courthouse the 24th day of June 1805 This Indenture and was further proved by the oath of John Payne another subscribing witness and ordered to be recorded.
