Are You Psychic - Part One |
Introduction Are you psychic? The short answer is, yes, you are, because psychic ability is as natural a part of human life and your nature as is breathing. Many people do not consider themselves to be psychic, they think of such abilities as belonging to the special few, and so cut themselves off from their own power. Here you will learn how to recognise and use, practise and develop, any psychic powers you have. This will be an exciting adventure, rediscovering our ancient heritage and putting it to use in modern society. What Psychic abilities are To be psychic simply means being able to obtain information in other ways than through using the physical senses of sight, hearing, etc. Clairvoyance is probably the best known and most commonly used psychic sense, and is often given as the name for all psychic abilities. Clairvoyance means "clear seeing", not with the physical sight, but with the inner, spiritual sight; it is a natural ability, just as normal eyesight is. Clairaudience means "clear hearing", when you can actually hear the voices of people that are not physically present. Telepathy is the transmitting and receiving of thoughts. With telepathy, it is possible to communicate with people who speak other languages, for the thoughts are transmitted free of language, and are automatically translated by the recipient. Channelling is when you allow a trustworthy spirit being to speak or write through you while you are in a trance. Psychometry means holding an object, and picking up impressions from it, usually clairvoyant images. Intuition, or direct knowing, is having the feeling, or a strong impression of some information without pictures or sounds. There is another psychic ability which is very common, and very much a mixed blessing. A sensitive will pick up and feel in their own mind and body, the feelings of another person. This is great if the other person is well and happy, but can be very uncomfortable if they are sad or ill. You will find information later in the book on how to recognise and control this psychic sense. Everyday psychic experiences Most people have had some psychic experiences. Many people, for example, just know who is on the other end when the phone rings, or get feelings that something has happened when someone they love has a dramatic experience, pleasant or unpleasant. It is extremely common, and perfectly normal, for people to see and speak to the spirit forms of their loved ones who have died, especially soon after the death. A ghost in a house can cause sensations of cold, or make noises, or even cause smells, often so obvious that everyone can notice them. Not only the dead go visiting their friends and loved ones. Some of the encounters we have with spirit forms are caused by people who are still very much alive. A typical scene is when someone is lying in bed, drowsing, and they see the shape of a person, often dark, who may come to the bed, even sit on it, pressing down the blankets. Usually this shocks them into waking up fully, and leaping out of bed, at which point the apparition disappears. This is because you have to be in a particular kind of receptive state to see such a vision, a state slightly different from normal waking consciousness, and jumping out of bed effectively brings you out of that state. While this kind of apparition can be a visit from someone who has died, or a spirit being such as a teacher, or a child waiting to be born, it is also possible, and very common, for a living person who is thinking strongly about you to send a "sub-physical thought form" to visit you, or indeed, in certain cases, to visit you in the out-of-body state. Old prison sites, battlesites, churches, and unspoiled natural places can have an atmosphere of powerful feelings, such as gloom, fear, or distress, spiritual uplifting, or natural calm or energy, that are so strong they can be felt by almost everyone. Finding out if you have any psychic abilities Clairvoyance It is very easy to find out if you are clairvoyant. First you need to know whether you can see anything at all on the inner, spiritual, levels, and secondly whether you can use this ability to see correct information about other people and situations. You can check the first part right now. Just answer this; which is taller, an elephant or a giraffe? Answer first, and then read on. What happened in your mind when you answered that question? Most people will see mental pictures of an elephant and a giraffe and compare them. If you are not sure whether you saw a mental picture, try some more questions:- Have you ever seen a purple bus? Do white cats have blue eyes or orange eyes? What shape is a rugby ball? What would your best friend look like with green hair? What is the funniest thing you've ever seen? If you do see mental pictures, then you do have inner or spiritual sight, however what you have just been looking at is the content of your own mind. Next you need to find out if you can look beyond that and see some of the masses of information available on the spiritual levels. This is one very easy way to find out. Ask a friend to help you. Sit with your friend, and close your eyes. See an image of your friend in your mind. Ask simple questions with yes or no answers and watch the image of your friend in your mind looking for a suitable response, nodding for yes, and shaking the head for no, for example. Begin with questions for which you know the answers. When you are consistently getting the correct response, begin mentally asking questions to which you do not know the answers. Be respectful here, only ask questions about information which you are sure your friend won't mind you knowing. See which response you get, then check with your friend if it was correct. Here is another test your friend can help you with. Ask them to choose a happy memory, one which didn't include you, (and one they are willing to share!). A lovely day out would be a good choice, or a special occasion such as a wedding. Have them describe that time to you, slowly, with plenty of pauses, and with many details carefully left out. For example, they may say, "I went with some friends," without describing those people, or, "I had something to eat," without saying exactly what it was. As your friend tells their story, sit quietly with your eyes closed, and allow your mind to form pictures to go with their words. When the story is finished, describe to your friend everything you saw, especially those extra details that were carefully left out for you. If you were getting other impressions with the pictures, such as sensing that one person was a talkative or a sport loving type, or that someone else was in a bad mood, or ill, then mention them too. Your friend can then tell you how much of what you saw and felt was accurate. If you have done well, then you are clairvoyant. Other psychic abilities While doing the above exercise, you may have "heard" music, or names, or a voice giving more information about the situation, again, check with your friend. If this information is correct, you are clairaudient. Test this further by asking a friend to leave with you the name, or perhaps a photo of someone they know well, but you don't. Choose a time when you are calm and alone, and mentally ask questions about this person, their name, occupation, hobbies, car, state of health, etc. Listen for the inner information. Write it down, and check it with your friend. The more you get right, the better your clairaudience is. Testing telepathy can be fun. Try sending a message to someone to phone you. Use any or all of these; a mental picture of them picking up the phone and dialling your number, repeated several times; mentally tell them, "phone me, phone me," over and over, work up and transmit a feeling of urgency - "phone me NOW!" Do this several times with different people. If most of them do ring you, you are a good telepathic transmitter. For receiving messages, ask your friends to transmit to you, and find out if you pick it up. Psychometry can also be tested easily. Have a friend bring you several objects which belong to other people that you don't know. Jewellery they often wear, a child's favourite toy, even their comb, or a lock of their hair. It must be something that they handle frequently, and which is seldom touched by others. Hold one object, think of receiving information about the owner, and simply notice what you see, hear and feel, looking particularly for information that can be proved to be true. Again, check with your friend and find out how accurate you were. Safe use of psychic powers Like any other activity, using psychic powers should be done in a safe and responsible way. Some people who are ill see hallucinations or hear voices that have nothing to do with psychic ability, and, obviously, you will want to avoid such difficulties. If you, or someone you love, keep seeing giant spiders everywhere, for example, or suffer from voices that order you to do things you know are wrong, if you keep seeing mental pictures of disasters that then don't happen, if you start making cups of tea, or knitting jumpers, for people that no-one else can see, or if you have any similar distressing mental experiences, this is not psychic ability, but a sign of illness, please see your doctor. Some people are afraid of using psychic powers because they might see unpleasant material, or have problems with powerful, unpleasant, spirit beings. There are methods to deal with these problems. First you need a philosophy, a way of looking at life, which convinces you of these spiritual truths:- One; that there is no power of evil and no evil beings (such as Satan or other demons), they simply do not exist. Two; that you are in control of everything that happens to you. And three; that no matter what happens in this world or any other, all will be well in the end, because God can and does turn everything to good. These messages are presented in many different ways in various religious and spiritual teachings. Find those that make sense to you and help to convince you of these truths. Although there are no truly evil spirit beings, there are as many different personalities among spirit beings as there are among living human beings, and you will like the company of some and prefer to avoid others. Many people like to place protection around themselves before using their psychic powers. This can be a ring or sphere of light which you imagine around you, and through which only trustworthy and well intentioned spirit beings can pass to contact you. It is the psychic equivalent of your home, with you deciding which people you will allow in. This should keep you safe from those spirit beings that you would find unpleasant. If you are still afraid of them, however, your fear can cause problems. In this case before you use your psychic abilities you will need to deal with the fear, and the best way to do that is to learn about your own power from spiritual teachings, as already suggested. If you are using clairvoyance, you will have to be able to handle seeing unpleasant things. These can be images of past or future murders, suicides or accidents, etc, or symbolic images such as dragons, vampires, or other seeming threats. You can make using clairvoyance easier for yourself by learning to control unpleasant images. Begin by imagining a neutral image, a vase, for example, or a bird, or a casual acquaintance. Practise manipulating the image, making it larger, or smaller, bringing it close, sending it soaring off to your mental horizon, making it shake like a jelly, or turning it upside down, putting it behind a Plexiglas wall or in a cage or on a television screen. If it is coloured, try turning it black and white. When you can do all this easily, choose a mildly unpleasant image and try the same manipulations. Find out exactly how to handle it so that it is comfortable for you to look at it. Now anytime you find yourself with unpleasant images in your mind, whether they are your own thoughts, or from clairvoyance, control them in the same way, so you can look at them comfortably. The same kind of control can be adapted for clairaudience, practise making mentally heard sounds and voices louder or quieter, close or further away, faster or slower, higher pitched or lower, again, until you have control. You will also need the faith, as mentioned earlier, that no matter how terrible things look or sound or seem, all will be well in the end. It is essential that you truly understand and believe this. Now some especial words of advice for all those people who find themselves feeling other people's feelings either mental or physical, or both. Some people know they are sensitives, but many others feel other people's feelings without realising it. Before you begin trying to develop your psychic abilities, please check carefully to see if this information applies to you. Have you ever been having a nice day, and then met someone who is angry or sad, and become angry or sad right along with them? Have you ever met someone who is in pain, and found yourself getting a sympathetic pain, even though you are quite well; for example, feeling pain in a healthy tooth which exactly corresponds to another person's real toothache? Have you ever been described as overemotional? Have you ever been involved with someone who themselves seems very unemotional, while you are desperately in love with them, or overly angry on their behalf, or in any other way having excessively strong feelings about them, or in support of them, much more than is reasonable? In all of these cases you have been picking up other people's feelings, and feeling them yourself. If the other person is denying their feelings, then you have actually been doing their feelings for them. If you have twice as much love as is reasonable for someone who doesn't show much love, for example, then you have been feeling their love for you, as well as yours for them. If you want to have control of your own experiences, and especially if you want to develop your psychic abilities, you must learn to handle this aspect, and control your ability to feel other people's feelings. You should also be in full control of the times when you use your psychic powers, switching them on and off at will. You expect your legs to walk when you want them to and not go on moving when you want to sit quietly. You don't have to go round in a constant state of uncontrolled psychic awareness. From the beginning, only use your psychic abilities when you have decided to. Having a special place and routine can help with this. For example; "When I sit in this chair, and calm myself, and actively look and listen for inner information, then, and only then, I will use my psychic abilities." Later, of course, when you are fully in control, you may wish to be more flexible. Success book and diary Having sorted out the problems, and achieved safe, comfortable control of your psychic powers, you will next want to build up your confidence in your abilities, and improve them. Start by buying yourself an attractive book in which to write all your psychic successes. First, write in everything you can remember from the past, every occasion you thought something would happen, and it did, every mental image you've seen that proved to be true, every contact you've had with someone who has died, or with a spirit friend, every time you've thought strongly to someone, "Please do this," and they did it. Next, get a diary, and every day, write in it any new information you have picked up psychically. If this proves to be true, add it to your Psychic Successes book along with any other new psychic experiences you have. When you need confidence, you will be able to pick up your book and remind yourself how well you do with your psychic abilities. You can also mentally see a long wall, and cover it with pictures of your successes, then see them expanding endlessly into the future, and being continuously added to.
