18 September 2003 GREETINGS and CONGRATULATIONS to all of you here present in this First East Coast Reunion of Paulinians. This is another milestone in Paulinian History. Kudos to Sol Balda-Ilagan and the officers and representatives of those in the East Coast. Truly, the Paulinian Spirit is here to stay! And as we enter into the spirit of Faith and Hope which are at the heart of the Philippine SPC Centennial celebration, our hearts are filled with joyful thanksgiving for God’s goodness and blessings. You, my dear Paulinians, are blessings and you make us proud. You give us impetus to move on in our various apostolates, From the kindergarten tots to the sensitive grade-schoolers, you went on to become the rebellious high school teeners. You have reached into the depths of the confusion of that age and you came up with sterling qualities. Today, you have broken ground and made a mark in your respective fields of endeavor. But above all and more important, you have stamped this with the mark of the Paulinian: self-giving service. For what can I say of your presence here tonight but a demonstration of that spirit! With you all who are here this evening and with all the Paulinians the world over we continue to unite our efforts to carry on what we have begun. But more than just being united, it is a COMMUNION that we must forge together to be the "Charity of Christ" to all! (SGD) SISTER MARY MAGDALEN TORRES, SPC
Pasuguan ng Pilipinas Embassy of the Philippines Washington D.C. Message On behalf of the Philippine Embassy, I wish to congratulate the Paulinian Global Foundation, Inc. on its first East Coast Reunion. This auspicious occasion affords the Paulinians with the opportunity not only to renew bonds of friendship but also to rededicate themselves to the Foundation's mission. There is really much to celebrate during this Reunion since the Foundation has a new feather in its cap. As a fellow Paulinian, it is heart-warming to know that the United States has recently granted its seal of approval for the Foundation to pursue its mission here. Sisters Mary George Siriban and Nieves Cueto -- both St. Paul of Chartres (SPC) nuns -- deserve our warm applause. From coast-to-coast, they rallied support for the Foundation all St. Paul College Alumnae in New York, New Jersey, Maryland, Washington, D.C., Los Angeles and San Francisco. This effort eventually paved the way for the Foundation's legal recognition in the US. With an expanded geographical reach, the Foundation can now harness a wider reservoir of humanitarian goodwill toward helping retired nuns and poor women and children in the Philippines. I am certain that all US-based Paulinians will do their share in transforming a blueprint for a new "vigil house" or a home for retired and ailing St. Paul of Chartres nuns, into reality. Our abiding faith and belief in His wisdom will sustain us all in this apostolic work. /signed/ Albert del Rosario Ambassador Washington, D.C. 26 September 2003

Date: Mon Sep 29, 2003 9:59 pm Subject: PGFI East Coast Reunion and Carpet Auction Fund-Raising Update Dear Classmates, First of all, let me thank all those who prayed for the success of last weekend's fund-raising of the East Coast Paulinians sponsored by the Paulinian Global Foundation, Inc. (PGFI) - your prayers were answered abundantly. From the bottom of my heart (and also the Sisters') maraming, maraming salamat! The following will be a long text so for those not interested I'm sorry, just go to the next message, I just need to make this to acknowledge those deserving Paulinians and friends who helped in making last weekend's fund-raising a tremendous success! Friday, September 26, 2003 - Paulinian Dinner-Dance at Ft. Myer: Nina was right, the evening was nostalgic, it was like we all were back in school attending one of the yearly school fairs which we had back then, we sang our Paulinian Hymn, danced, talked, reminisced, shared stories of our lives, watched the "Welcome to the 2004 SPC Centennial" tape which Ching Llagas Marbella (thanks Ching, and also to the SPCMHS75 for creating this tape) had kindly fedexed to me - but most of all, we all came together with one purpose, to be committed to help our dear St. Paul College alma mater. Yes, the Paulinian spirit is still so much alive! I would like to thank all of those who came and showed support, both fellow Paulinians and non-Paulinians, those who couldn't make it but sent in their donations, those who came and brought fellow Paulinians with them, those who came after they had seen the ad in the Manila Mail (a Filipino-American newspaper) and the World Bank/IMF Bulletin Board, Chona Dizon-Freedman (SPCMHS'80 and PGFI Secretary) for helping me with the Souvenir Program, Maria (Babes) Cariaga-Banatao (SPCMHS'63, BA'67) and Cristina Pamaar (SPCIloiloBSN'80) for sending in their grand benefactor ad donations, Delia Hernandez Alladin (SPCMHS'65 and PGFI Treasurer) for handling the registration, Nina Galang Reynoso (SPCMHS'65BSN'70) for emceeing the event, Marcia Andres (SPCMHS'65) for assisting in selling raffle tickets, Mercedes Balda-Buhain (SPCMHS'63) and Carmen Balda-Cajulis (SPCMHS'54) for the decor and set up of the place, Alma Conty (a very good friend of mine who helped in logistics and seating arrangements as well as decor and setup) and most of all, my husband, Lito for being there to support me from start to finish, and the list goes on.... From the dinner-dance event which includes the ads for the Souvenir Program, PGFI was able to reach it's goal of netting at least $3,000 (donations are still coming in). This is a good outcome considering that there were around 100 guests. Again, without the prayers offered, I don't think we would have achieved this so thank you once again. I also know that Sister Nieves alerted all the Sisters to pray as well. Saturday and Sunday - September 27 & 28, 2003 - Carpet Auction: It is from this fund-raising that PGFI made the most earnings. PGFI shared its earnings 50/50 with Feed the Hungry. This auction was attended by several Paulinians including Cristy Pamaar, Mitzi Hocson Ambion (SPCMHS'73), Delia Hernandez, the Balda sisters and the rest are our friends from the Filipino-American community. For those who came because they just recently bought a house (they were the also the ones who contributed to the success of this auction) - thank you. As I explained in my welcome remarks, the purpose of their being there is dual - to make there homes beautiful and to help the less fortunate countrymen and the ageing sisters back home. Here, I would like to thank of course, Mr. Abdi Parvizian, the owner of Parvizian Masterpieces, who accommodated PGFI and FTH and donated a percentage of his gross earnings to these 2 charities. Thanks also to Cristy Pamaar and Marides Buhain who purchased exquisite handmade Persian carpets for their homes. All in all, these events achieved what it intended to achieve; camaraderie and raising of funds for the good causes of our dear Sisters of St. Paul of Chartres. Once again, many many thanks to all those who contributed to its success. I would also like to mention an important achievement of PGFI - last Saturday I received the approval from the Internal Revenue Service (IRS) on the tax-exemption application, PGFI is now officially a tax- exempt organization. All donations (regardless of amount) would be tax-exempt. Here, Sr. Mary George Siriban and Sr. Nieves Cueto and Lito Ilagan (and again, prayers) helped me with the preparation of the application papers for tax exemption. We truly are blessed! Take care all of you and God bless, pictures will be forthcoming. Sol
From: "Florina Galang-Reynoso Date: Mon Sep 29, 2003 7:22 am Subject: Re: Inter-Batch Reunion....... A Huge Success Hi goldies, just to let you know, (Sol will come out with it officially), the first inter-batch reunion held last Friday, Sept. 25, 2003 at the Fort Myers Community Center was a huge sucess. About 100 plus folks came to dance, dine and help raise funds for the foundation. The attendees were Paulinian grads from elementary, hs and college, from 1953 to 1977. Some came all the way from New Jersey and New York. Some were graduates from SPC Iloilo, Paranaque, and Quezon City and all came to bond as Paulinians. We viewed the tape that was sent to Sol and it was a night of nostalgia.. All of us felt proud to be Paulinians. no borders nor boundaries (regionally), we were all one in the Paulinian spirit. We were able to raise quite a bit of cash, even the raffle winners donated back their cash prizes.. Paulinian din ang mga ito. Anyway, Sol will relate to you the details of the event. Delia, Marcia, Sol and I represented our batch. The food was great, the music ranged from the twist to rhumba and the folks who danced were all ballroom habitues, so you can just imagine, the dance floor was always puno. we hope to get together and grow as our prez said, multiply to fulfill our goals and commitiment... We might decide another event next spring. nina
Soledad Balda-Ilagan, President Paulinian Global Foundation, Inc. Speech during the Second PGFI East Coast Reunion Held at the Trump Marina Hotel, Atlantic City, New Jersey Saturday, October 23, 2004 Ambassador Albert del Rosario, Sr. Mary Magdalen Torres, Fellow Paulinians, Guests and Friends, a warm welcome to all of you. We are once again celebrating the Paulinian Global Foundation East Coast reunion. This is a night we should all be proud of. We, the alumni of St. Paul’s College have gathered together in unity and solidarity. Tonight we have banded together as true Paulinians to prove that the Paulinian spirit is still alive within us. Yes, for we are here tonight not only for the purpose of being together but also because we are extending our much needed assistance to our aging mentors, our very dear Sisters of St. Paul of Chartres in the Philippines. To the Paulinians from Iloilo, last year I stood before you asking for your help for the Vigil House. Tonight I thanks you for your assistance and support. Two years ago, we were visited by three Sisters here in the US with an appeal for help on three projects, namely: the new Vigil House where the old Sisters live until they are united with their Creator; the Diagnostic Clinic in Baguio City which was torn down by a strong earthquake in the 1980s; and the Pastoral Center in Quezon City for battered women and street children. The timing of the Sisters’ visit coincided with the SPCMHS1965 reunion in Washington, DC. Thus majority of your officers were appointed right on the spot and this is how the Paulinian Global Foundation, Inc. was created. We are pleased to let you know that this foundation is now a non-profit 501c(3) tax-exempt organization. Upon request, donors can now donate and get a tax deduction for every donation they make. The new Diagnostic Center in Baguio City and the new Vigil House are now complete and operational. And now it is the maintenance of day to day operations where our help is much needed. Tonight’s fund-raising will go entirely to this Vigil House project. Let me take this opportunity to thank our special guest, a Paulinian as well, the Philippine Ambassador to the United States, Ambassador Albert del Rosario who came all the way from Washington, D.C. to be with us tonight. We are also graced by the presence of our dear Sister Provincial, Sr. Mary Magdalen Torres. Of course, thank you too Mr. Basil Valdez for agreeing to sing for us tonight as well as another Paulinian, Ms. Mae Cendana for coming all the way from San Francisco to sing to us. My friends, this Concert Dinner-Dance would not have been possible without the hard work of some Paulinians who gave their precious time and talent to make this event happen. Please join me in congratulating the Committee Chairs for this dinner-dance concert, Ms. Chona Dizon-Freedman and Dr. Cristina Garcia-Pamaar. Chona, Cristy our heartfelt thanks to both of you. Please know how grateful we all are for the hard work you have put into this event. Behind Chona and Cristy, let me call the following other hardworking Paulinians, Ruby Vergara, Rey Zambudo, Delia Hernandez-Alladin, Nina Galang-Reynoso, Cherry Pedro-Hsu, and Cecilia Locsin and I am sure there are a lot more of you who had one way or another contributed to make this evening a successful one. Thank you very much. And now, may I ask all Paulinians to stand and follow me as I recite the Paulinian Pledge. I am a Paulinian Steeped in the traditions of my catholic faith Trained and led by loving gentle hands To be the second lady Mary Walking through life Bringing peace, love and joy For my country and my God Let us now sing the Paulinian hymn. (Hark daughters of …..) And now, let us sit back, relax and enjoy the evening of camaraderie, singing and dancing.
PASUGUAN NG PILIPINAS EMBASSY OF THE PHILIPPINES WASHINGTON, D.C. M E S S A G E On behalf of the Philippine Embassy, I wish to congratulate the Paulinian Global Foundation, Inc. Allow me to share your pride as you commemorate your second Paulinian East Coast Reunion. As a fellow Paulinian it is heart-warming to know that the Foundation’s pursuit of its mission here in the United States (has) been bearing fruit. I am sure that this major fundraising event and dinner dance celebration will be a festive and productive one, which will further reinvigorate your Foundation. It is a time for you to reaffirm your solidarity, review your Foundation’s performance and map out its future directions and rededicate yourselves to your mission. This event also serves a worthy cause. Its proceeds will be used for the construc-tion of the new Vigil House, a building for the retired nuns, poor women and children in the Philippines of St. Paul of Chartres. Our abiding faith and belief in His Wisdom will sustain us all in this apostolic work in bringing peace, joy and love. MABUHAY TO THE PAULINIAN GLOBAL FOUNDATION, INC.! ALBERTO DEL ROSARIO Ambassador Washington, D.C. 16 August 2004
M E S S A G E It is with JOY that I greet you, dear Paulinians and all of you, who have taken time out to grace this event. Our sincere CONGRATULATIONS to the Officers of the Paulinian Global Foundation, Inc. and the organizers of this Concert-Dinner and Dance. The PGFI has, indeed, taken off and is moving on. The development and direction it is taking invites one to reflect – not only on what it means to put one’s trust in God’s provident love but also on what Paulinian dynamism is all about. It is a gift – a gift that celebrates life and a gift that shares oneself with others. It is a gift that is wrapped in the LOVE of Christ and tonight’s event is but another expression of this gift. It is heartening to note how the PGFI is becoming a means of creating community among Paulinians and their families and friends and so, expanding the Paulinian family. Together you can continue to make a difference and to transform some aspect of our global community. As we come to the conclusion of the SPC Centennial celebration in the Philippines we recall the sense of self-gift imbued in us by our Founders. This we have tried to pass on to you and seeing how you set things going, we are assured that the Paulinian ideals will live on for the next 100 years. God bless us all with His love and may the Blessed Mother continue to keep you and your family in her gentle care. (sgd) SISTER MARY MAGDALEN TORRES, SPC
Sisters of St. Paul of Chartres Philippine Province P.O. Box 1065, Antipolo City, Philippines M E S S A G E Good Evening! At this time in the Philippines, we are concluding the SPC Centennial celebration. Jubilee is a time of THANKSGIVING. And we do have many things to thank God for ~ the many blessings these past 100 years and the people who have shared of themselves with us. Immediately, my sincere THANKS and CONGRATULATIONS go to the Paulinian Global Foundation Officers and all those who have given themselves to the events the Foundation has organized and now, this evening's affair. But then, this event tonight is not just any dinner-dance-concert affair. It is more than that – it is a celebration of the Paulinian giftedness and Paulinian bonding. This is truly one great event and I don't refer to numbers but rather to the magnanimity of heart of all of you here. Otherwise, you would have chosen not to be here tonight. I also acknowledge those who would have come but could not. THANK YOU ALL. While there is still much to be done, the new Vigil House, which you have chosen as recipient of your generosity, has already been blessed and the Pastoral and Health Care Center in Baguio City is now functioning. The Center for Abused Women and Street Children is yet to be planned by the new SPC Provincial Administration. We hope you can have a chance to see them when you go home to visit. I would like to take this opportunity to give credit to and thank the SPCM High School Class'65. Two years ago, in their gathering at the World Bank Auditorium, they conceived the idea of a foundation. It did create a ripple which swelled to become the Paulinian Global Foundation Incorporated. Today, its ever-widening wavelets are reaching, not only other Paulinians, but their families and friends as well. The PGFI is now truly Global because of your tremendous response to its call. Again, many thanks and may God bless you always and Our Blessed Mother and St. Paul pray for you and your family. ___________________________________
Sisters of St. Paul of Chartres Philippine Province P.O. Box 1065, Antipolo City, Philippines 23 October 2004 M E S S A G E Dear Paulinians, Our heartfelt Congratulations to the organizers of this “One Night w/ Basil Valdez.” We have reason to believe that this is going to be one successful evening, not only because there was much preparation that went into it and maybe, sleepless nights but more important, because when the Paulinian works she/he does it with commitment and efficiency. We are confident that this is going to be one successful event because of the many Paulinians who come and give their support. For, indeed, that is who the Paulinian is – an active participant and a leader spurred on by the motto: “Caritas Christi Urget Nos!” And as we end the SPC Centennial Celebration and we begin the Marian and Eucharistic Year in the Philippines, we pray Our Blessed Mother to continue to fill you, and those who come within your influence, with that Paulinian vitality and spirit! A Good News: The New Vigil House was blessed last September 27th. (sgd): Sr. Nieves Cueto, spc Sr. Mary George Siriban, spc
--- In SPCM-HS65COL69@yahoogroups.com, "Florina R. Galang " wrote: Wow na wow, let me be the first to share with you the amazing success of the Basil Concert held in Atlantic City, New Jersey. It was a tremendous turn-out, close to 500 folks filled up the Cayman Ballroom at the Trump Marina Hotel and Casino. The food was good, the guest speaker, Ambassador Del Rosario sat at our table and was very amiable. Sr. Magdalen Torres flew all the way from Jerusalem to be with us. We sang our hearts out for the Paulinian hymn at the start of the program. FInally out came Basil who belted out 12 songs. This is the kind of concert that he needs to perform - intimate, not an auditorium kind of event. This second time that I watched him, he really connected with the audience. Marcia was counting his songs with sugar packets on the table. We also helped sell his CD after the concert. Dulce sat right beside him, monitoring the crowd of fans who flocked around him like anything. The DJ was terrific, oldies-goodies music, and everyone took to the floor. All in all it was one fun night. Who were there? Marcia, Sol, Delia/Fred, Alleli/Boyfriend, Dulce, and of course, the Paulinians from Iloilo -all RNs- came in droves all the way from California and Chicago, and the classmates of Chona DIzon, plus Mae Cendana. Sol said that Marianne de la Riva was there, I did not get a chance to spot her, there was just too many folks. At any rate, congratulations to Chona and Christy Pamaar (Iloilo RN grad) and Sol for really going out of their way to make this truly memorable. We were all over the place, Sol/Delia at the Resorts with Marcia whereas Dulce and I with two other ladies stayed at the Borgata. Nope, I did not gamble a lot, I only won $5.00 and had to pull out quick, before I go went broke. Dulce lost $150.00. Come Dec. 17, Sol will be back here in the area and the rest of us DC folks will be brainstorming for the 2005 event. Cheers. Nina --- End forwarded message ---
