102601 Get-together at Cocoi’s Place By:Nancy Guevarra Narciso Hi Friends, All is quiet on the Philippine front. Puyat kasi lahat. Imagine, we were together till way past 1 a.m. and some of us even stayed behind to ask for plant cuttings from Cocoi. Good luck, girls, on growing your Song of Jamaica. Cocoi, hostess with the mostest, our sincerest gratitude. It was wonderful seeing you all again (in order of appearance) Sylvia, Cocoi, Carolle, Lahla, Eca, Nina, Star, Nora, Mita, Corrie, Millie, Maria, Angie, and Manots. Isang gabi ng kainan, kantahan (singing the Paulinian hymn in 2 voices brought out the neighbors), sayawan, (Beth, may practice ng mashed potatoes at shing-a-ling) tawanan, balitaktakan, at dasalan. St. Paul's na St. Paul's talaga! A little of everything with the total more than anyone expected. Win-Win ! Synergy! The food was great! Congrats to all who cooked. Ang sarap ng blue marlin with garlic, grilled chicken, chopsuey, sugpo, lumpiang shanghai, lechon, fruit salad, buko pandan salad, brownies, castanas, coffee with Bailey's etc. etc. Nora, your solo rendition of "Danny Boy" brought back memories of Ms. Agravante and our Glee Club days. Thank you too for the consciousness-raising talk on waste management. Cocoi and Carolle, I promise to start a compost pot, at least but I can't promise to bring my own shopping bags to the supermarket. Maria, thank you again for the updated directory complete with email addresses. (Paki-tanggal na lang yung ………., please.) And thank God and thank you all for the emotional and spiritual comfort derived from our praying together. BTW, Lahla, thank you too for finally unraveling the great Sandra Dee mystery. Nancy
112301 Bienvenida for Mildred Part I By: Nancy Guevarra --- In SPCM-HS65COL69@y..., Nancy Guevarra Narciso <...> wrote: Friendship and Food Or 2 Lessons from 3 Noodle Dishes and a Scunchie November 23. This was going to be our second party in just 2 weeks and I made sure I wasn’t going to be late this time. If I was to be the Maurice Arcache of the tres chic SPCM Society, I shouldn’t miss a thing. So I went to join the lunch at Dusit originally set by Beth with Erna and Carolle who both missed the November 9 party. There were five of us: Beth, our honoree, who came all the way from Cabanatuan, Nueva Ecija, Vivian, who came all the way from Lucena, Quezon , Millie, Espie and myself. No sign of Carolle and Erna . I learned that Carolle had called to say she was accompanying her daughter to a doctor’s appointment at 2 p.m. Erna was still at a business meeting at the nearby New World Hotel and would join us later. Over lunch, Vivian was surprisingly chatty and funny. (I always thought she was the quiet type.) After lunch, Millie and Espie rushed back to their offices and we stayed behind to wait for Erna. However, by the time Cocoi arrived driving her new, green Mitsubishi Pajero at 4 p.m., Erna still hadn’t shown up. Si Cocoi, talagang wala akong masabi, hostess na, driver pa. She went to Dusit because Beth, Vivian and I needed a ride to her home in United Paranaque (aka the clubhouse) where the evening party was to be held. On the way, we picked the delicious Blue Marlin cooked with garlic and some fresh yellow mums. At her home, Cocoi was puttering about with endless chores: laying checkered tablecloths on the Monobloc tables out in the garden, checking the plates, glasses, tableware, arranging flowers etc. etc. Remember Maritess, Cocoi’s baby sister with the big, beautiful eyes ? She’s home from Switzerland for the holidays and was as busy as her Ate in the kitchen. Cocoi’s lovely home was decked with multicolored Capiz lanterns, angel statuettes, bright red poinsettias . Christmas na Christmas na ang ambiance. There was a new terra cotta fountain gently gurgling water located near her computer table. Beside it was a long piece of bamboo which, when tilted, made the sound of rain. How? I don’t know. Nina Batto-Ganal who was the last to arrive for the party informed us that nuns make it and she knows where they can be contacted. If you miss the sound of rain and feel nostalgic when you hear the song that starts, Look out the window on a rainstorm, you can get yourself a rain bamboo. Name that tune ! Gosh, I can’t remember, can you ? I know it was sung by a girl and was popular in the early 70s. Fatima/Beth arrived on time with the evening’s other honoree, Mildred and her husband of two years, Ed Kolker. You would recognize Mildred any where longish hair, steady gaze, big warm smile. More mature and sophisticated, of course ,in her long, black sleeveless shift dress. Beth brought a bilao of pancit palabok and crispy, still warm chicharon. Next to arrive in quick succession were Helen, Nora, Angie, Manots, Lahla, Ella, Carolle, Eca, Mely (Col 69), Imogene, and Laura. I don’t know who brought which but laid out on the dining table, next to the pancit palabok, chicharon, and blue marlin, were fried chicken, leche flan, sweet sampaloc candies, and another noodle dish, spaghetti with a white sauce made of tuna, mushroom, cheese and cream. Dinner was served. We held hands and Ed led the praying of the grace before our meal. He said a really touching prayer thanking the Lord for friendship and food. We’ve always prayed at every dinner we’ve had together and each time, the prayer, whether in English or Tagalog, is extremely touching. Remember Carmel’s card, how a friend is like a good bra hard to find, supportive and close to the heart. Don’t you think friendship and food have even more in common? Good, warm, nourishing and vital. Can you think of other similarities? Soon after, Star, Corrrie and Millie arrived with a huge bilao of pancit malabon. We had three noodle dishes! Which leads to lesson No.1, coordinate or end up with 3 noodle dishes. Where’s the longanisa? Where’s Beth’s famous longanisa ? That was everyone’s question followed by a reminder to me to eat just one piece as promised to Nina R. Cocoi who had planned to bring the longanisa to the Tagaytay picinic quickly ordered a batch cooked.
112701 Date at Dish with the Band of 67 By: Carolle Chan Agbulos --- In SPCM-HS65COL69@y..., "conduit services" <@e...> wrote: Dear Beth and Classmates, We had fun! We almost did not have any seats because it was reserved (the whole place which had 600 seating capacity) by the Ateneo HS Class 61. We were able to have some seats reserved but Millie and I decided to be there early - baka makuha pa ng iba ang seats namin. (To our surprise, our seats were better because we had a better view of the band plus we avoided the cigarette smoke inside.) The "Spirit of 67" was great! This group of Ateneans are really good - they sang vintage 60s and 70s songs - Cherish, Before and After (Chad & Jeremy) California Dreamin, MacArthur Park, My Girl, I'll be There, Til there was you,Bus Stop, YMCA, etc. The Ricky Nelson of Ateneo (a certain Ricky Santiago) sang "I'm Confessin", and Ramon Jacinto sang 2 rock n roll music. One of the sponsors of the show was Macky Lopez (of the famous Lopez Meralco family) who happens to be the President of Power Plant - the newest entertainment center in Makati. The food is good and reasonably priced. There is no cover charge. Eca followed and had dinner with us. Beth Tagle, Mildred and her husband Ed came at 10:30 in time for the 2nd set. The band had 2 sets and did not repeat any song in their repertoire. Siyempre with good music ang kasabay nito ay dancing in the good-old 60s way - boogie, bye-bye, shing-a-ling, soul, etc. The music was inviting Mildred's husband started to dance - siyempre kami sumasayaw na rin. Beth, you will really love the music and the dancing. Aside from you, we also remembered the good dancers in our class -Elvira (who dances with a lot of gusto), Charito, and Mary Ann and wished they were with us. I know Elvie would have loved it We have a repeat night-out for you on Tuesday, 04 December. A table for 10-15 pax has been reserved for us and we hope we will have a bigger group. We will meet at the Dish 7pm and have dinner there so we won't be moving from one place to the other (others can come in later if you wish, basta huwag lang naman past 11pm or you would have missed 3/4 of the show) You may also opt to just watch the show - the 1st set starts at 8:30 and the 2nd set starts at 10:30. Please confirm your attendance . we reserved a table for 10-15 pax.So far, those who have confirmed are: Millie Eca Ella Carolle Beth TAKE TIME OFF FROM YOUR HECTIC SKED...... JOIN THE FUN - God bless you! Carolle
120601 Dinner&Lunch for Sylvia in Washington By Soledad Balda Ilagan PS: Just had lunch with Lena, Sylvia and Elvie here at the World Bank. They apparently have not been able to access the photos from their computers so I took them to my computer here at the office. D'yos me ang iingay!! Katakot-takot na comments about our classmates. Last night naman, we were joined by Florina (puro chicks lang kami). We had dinner at the Bamboo Buffet here in Arlington then had coffee at Lena's house. Ang gugulo!!! Kulang na kulang ang horas. Already brainstorming about the Sept. reunion. Still too early to update.
