Pele's League Week 6 Review - October 8th Pele's League continues to have great games. Week 6 of action and we still have an undefeated team and one winningless team, both from Sao Paulo. We even had a guaranteed win from a coach, and he was right about it (by only four points...!). Let's check out the results:
Randolph Blue Devils 19 vs. 91 Sao Paulo 55ers If the Sao Paulo 55ers performace last week was amazing, check this out: a huge blowout over the 9th place in the league, as the Randolph Blue Devils got beaten by a margin of 72 points! The 55ers started the season well, but their offense wasn't that impressive. They seeemed to be the weakest of the top place teams. But now, with this 91 point performance, they've improved themselves to 6-0 and now they have the second best attack in the league. This week, they were led by QB Kordell Stewart's 31 points, along with 14 from WR Antonio Freeman and a finishing touch from RB Terrell Davis and the Broncos D on Monday Night. The Blue Devils (1-5) have now lost two straight. This week, the whole team struggled, as no player scored more than 6 points. They need RB Emmitt Smith to step up very soon if they hope to get back on track.
Ithaca Isolators 34 vs. 35 Cortland, NY Gradams Greats The Ithaca Isolators are owners of the Pele's League best attack. But as they faced the Cortland, NY Gradams Greats in this Week 6, it came out as a very low scoring game, with the result being one of the most impressive an amazing in this season. The Gradams Greats were 2-3 before the game, and as the underdogs, they managed to keep this a close game, with rookie RB Warrick Dunn and the Jets Defense leading the way. They scored 35 points on Sunday. The Isolators, famous for their "Raider Attack", managed only 34 points on Sunday, as the Raiders didn't play that well as previously. So, coming into Monday Night, they were losing by a single point, and they had only DP Darrien Gordon of the Broncos to make a difference, while the Gradams Greats had nobody left. But Gordon coudn't manage any point at all, and the Isolators met defeat fot only the second time this season (4-2), dropping them to third place. The Gradams Greats (3-3) are now in sixth place.
Oporto Eagles 65 vs. 60 Sao Paulo Golpes Baixos The Oporto Eagles were facing the only winningless team in Pele's League, as the Sao Paulo Golpes Baixos tried to get their first win of the season. Although they did play well, the Golpes Baixos lost again, this time a close one, 65-60. The Eagles were led by QB Vinny Testaverde and RB Ricky Watters, as both scored 17 points each. WR Derrick Alexander added 9, as did RB James Stewart. They played with bye week kicker John Kasay, on a mistake that could have changed the game. Luckly, the Eagles escaped with the win. You can't blame the Golpes Baixos for not trying. Being down 65-58, they still had Ben Coates on Monday Night to try to pull out an upset. But Coates only scored 2 points. The bright spot for them was the Steelers Denfense, with 20 points.
Sao Paulo CCM 40 vs. 47 Sao Paulo Hard Plays It seems like every week we have a Sao Paulo local matchup, as the league features four teams from this city. This week, the Sao Paulo Hard Plays beat the Sao Paulo CCM in a close game, with the CCM trying to make a run at the very end, but falling short. The Hard Plays have lost only once this season, and they have a good offense. This week, QB Brad Johnson and RB Bam Morris played well, but Curtis Martin and their receivers, Robert Brooks and Michael Irving, didn't produce many points. So, it was up to CCM's QB John Elway to try a come from behind win on Monday. But Elway had a bad game, scoring only 5 points. The CCM also lost some of their chance when they left the 49ers defense in the lineup, as they had a bye this week. This could have been the difference for them.
PIMP C's REAL G's 42 vs. 38 San Juan Coquis When coach Charles Mcquibban of the PIMP C's REAL G's guaranteed a win in this game, he showed a lot of confidence in his squad. But against the San Juan Coquis, his team really earned this win, as the final score shows a very thin 4-point margin of victory. But, as the coach previewed, they won, and that's what really matters. The win, though, didn't came until Monday Night. With the score being 34-32, the REAL G's had the lead going into Monday, but they had only Bledsoe, while the Coquis had two Denver receivers, Rod Smith and Ed McCaffrey. Oddly enough, Bledsoe played poorly. But even then, the Broncos receivers couldn't find the endzone, so Bledsoe's 8 points were just enough to secure the G's a very neeeded win, as they were coming from 3 straight losses. The REAL G's improve to 3-3 (5th place), while the Coquis dropped to 2-4 (8th place). ----- If you'd like to see how these games were previewed, check the Week 6 Pele's League Preview.
