Pele's League Week 7 Review - October
16th No more perfect season thoughts for the Sao Paulo 55ers, as they dropped their first game of the season to the rivals Sao Paulo Hard Plays, owned by Luis Curro. The final score was 81-47, with QB Brad Johnson and K Adam Vinatieri being the difference for the Hard Plays (6-1), who are now tied with the 55ers (6-1) for first place in Pele's League. The Sao Paulo Golpes Baixos got their first win of the season against the Randolph Blue Devils, 66-40, thanks to nice games by QB Brett Favre and by the Pittsburgh Steelers Defense. Both these teams are now tied for last place at 1-6, and they must start a winning streak if they hope to have a shot to be this year's Pele's League champion. Another tough team in this league is the Ithaca Isolators, who just beat the San Juan Coquis by a very thin 3-point margin of difference, 62-59. RB Barry Sanders and TE Mark Chmura played great for the Isolators (5-2), while QB Neil O'Donnell and WR Keyshawn Johnson scored well or the Coquis (2-5). They even had a chance to come from behind on Monday Night, as they had TE Eric Bjornson of the Dallas Cowboys. But Bjornson came up with the big zero, so no threatening realized for the Ithaca Isolators, who secured their fifth win of the season, only one shy of the leaders. After a struggle, the PIMP C's REAL G's appear to have find again what it takes to win games, as they beat the Cortland, NY Gradams Greats and improve to 4-3, with a streak of two wins in a row. The score was 46-33, with QB Drew Bledsoe, RB Raymont Harris and the Vikings D scoring well for the REAL G's. The Gradams Greats (3-4) suffered badly from QB Kent Graham minus-4 point performance. On another close game, the Oporto Eagles barely defeated the Sao Paulo CCM, 42-39. The CCM (2-5) even had a chance to beat the Eagles on Monday Night, but RB Terry Allen got injured very early in the game, scoring zero points. The difference in the game was by the Oporto Eagles' RB James Stewart, with 34 points. Actually, the rest of the team played very poorly - four players with zero points, and after Stewart, the best score came from Ricky Watters: 3 points. The Eagles improve to 5-2, tied for second in the standings.
