Global Football League Week 7 Review -
Wednesday, October 15th Week 7 in Global Football League (GFL) marked mid-season. And marked a statement by The Lounge Lizards, as they were all over the Sao Paulo Travelers - for the second time this season. In the East, the Screaming Meanies still have the lead, but the Sao Paulo Big Passaros are not far behind. In this new Quick Review (due to time constraints - and laziness, of course!), I'm going to tell about the games in a more succinct manner. Hope it still fits as a quick view of the past week! In the Game of The Week, the Sao Paulo Travelers battled The Lounge Lizards for top place in the West. But the brazilian team had no chance, as the Lizards blew them away with easy, 97-40. Biggest stories were WR Irving Fryar with 3 TD's, the Patriots D with 18 points and, of course, Brad Johnson doing it all: including a Johnson to Johnson TD pass! The Travelers, who couldn't find the endzone again this week, drop to 4-3 while the Lizards improve to 5-2. The Screaming Meanies maintained first place in the East by defeating the Kauai Rainbows, 71-41. The Meanies must be excited that Dan Marino is coming back to his old form (15 points). RB Robert Smith, TE Ben Coates and the Vikings D also helped a lot in this win. The Meanies are 5-2 now, while the Rainbows are in a difficult situation at 2-5. The Sao Paulo Big Passaros defeated the Crown City Thorns in a Eastern divisional matchup, 69-45. The Passaros (4-3) had RB James Stewart - end of story. Stewart's five TD runs were the difference in the game. The Thorns (3-4) had nice games by TE Mark Chmura and RB Curtis Martin, but it wasn't enough. This two teams have now split the season series. In another divisional matchup, this time in the West, a very low scoring game ended up with a New London Wacker Boyz II victory over the Bloody Sabbaths, 37-21. Kicker Al Del Greco of the Boyz (4-3) scored 14 points and made the difference for them. Sabbaths (2-4-1) QB Kordell Stewart struggle took out any chances for them in the game, as he had a minus-1 performance. The closest game of the week was decided only on Sunday Night. The Da Kine Hawaiian came from behind to defeat the New York Freaky Fat Cats, 59-55, thanks to an 8-point performance by RB Jerome Bettis on Sunday Night against the Colts. The Hawaiian (2-5) opened up with good performances by QB Steve Young and the Lions D, but the Cats (3-3-1) counter-attacked with 26 points by RB Barry Sanders and 18 points from kicker Adam Vinatieri, giving them a four point lead. But Bettis had the last word, and the Hawaiian got their second win of the season.
