On the lead-off track of his Epic debut album UNDER
MY EYES, Julio Iglesias Jr. declares expansively,"Welcome to my world."
It's an invitation as well as introduction, an invitation to come home with
him; for that's where his musical story begins.
The 25 year-old Julio hasn't exactly been
a stranger to the spotlight. Before he began to concentrate full-time on
his music, Julio had established himself as an in-demand model and
a promising actor who was on a fast track to television success. One look
is all you need to understand why the likes of photographer Bruce Weber,
after spotting a picture of young Julio with his family, offered him
the chance to work on a Versace campaign. Then the esteemed fashion lensman
Mario Testino enlisted Julio for a Gap ad. Vanguard New York designer
John Bartlett, among others, invited Julio to walk the runway for
him.
The charming and handsome Julio is obviously
a young man of the world. He can enthuse about the San Francisco 49ers, whom
he began to champion during his college days, and in the next breath declare
his loyalty to España as far as all things soccer-related. He also
enjoys the daytime physical pleasures of Miami: windsurfing, water-skiing,
the beach.
And now, Julio is resolutely building a
musical career on his own terms. Like any aspiring singer-songwriter fueled
by inspiration and determination, he worked in relative isolationin
secret, as he likes to put ituntil he was satisfied enough to allow
friends, family and finally an eager music industry to hear what he had created.
It was only when he decided to go public that even his illustrious father
discovered what he had been up to. And Julio Sr.'s reaction was much like
that of some of the finer ears in the record business: he was impressed and
excited by the possibilitiesnot to mention proud. Father and son were
in agreement: Julio Iglesias Jr., the musician, was
ready.
Welcome to his world.
